In The Dark Mod, you play a master thief living in a dark, sprawling city. A blend of gothic architecture and steampunk technology, the city contains great, belching chimneys, grand cathedrals, and medieval manor-houses. As a master of the shadows, you move through the city streets unseen, avoiding the eyes (and blades) of the city's thieves' guild, while doing jobs for the various political factions. Nobles, mages or the Church, it doesn't matter, as long as the pay is good.
In technical terms, our goal is to create a complete conversion of the Doom 3 platform, turning it into a stealth-based game. We have created new and improved AI, and new models and textures that support a 'steampunk' genre made popular by Looking Glass Studio's "Thief" franchise.
This mod is, first and foremost, a toolkit. Although it ships with some playable maps, our goal is to provide people with all the tools necessary to create their own Medieval Steampunk Fan Missions.

The response to the release of The Dark Mod has been very gratifying. There have been over 3000 downloads thus far, and the vast majority of the comments we've received have been very positive. Thanks to all those who took the time to offer feedback! Rest assured, we're working on several fixes and improvements for our first update (likely due sometime before the end of the year).
Be sure to visit our forums if you're having any problems installing TDM...we've also put together a FAQ on our wiki with solutions to common problems.
In other exciting news...although it's only been two weeks, we've already released our first new Fan Mission! Demagogue is the author of "Patently Dangerous", a city mission about inventor espionage. Get it on our Downloads page, and post comments here.

I hope there will be some remake-maps from the original Thief1-2! Very good work, and it's too hard to wait for the release
As cool as it would be to see Thief 1 and 2 remade, we cannot due to copyright.
This is from our FAQ:
"
Q: What about copyright issues?
We will be making no references to any Thief trademarks or Eidos’ intellectual property. The Dark Mod is not Thief--there is no Garrett, no Keepers, no Mechanists, etc. However, since both Thief and The Dark Mod are based on a steampunk version of our own history, there are plenty of similarities."
I've been waiting for the Dark Mod for ages now. Can't wait for the Beta release. Hope it's going to get released this month.
The Black heart manor video looks great. Are you planning to release it as one of the maps? I hope so.
Sorry about the long wait. Yes, we do plan on releasing Black Heart Manor as a mission.
Im a big fan of the Thief series, so I'm watching this.
Thief : deadly shadows remake
No. It is not a remake of Deadly Shadows, nor do we want it to be like Deadly Shadows.
As Happy Cheeze said, TDM takes place in universe unto itself...similar, yet different. Our goal is to make TDM visually closer to what T3 might have looked like if it were made by Looking Glass Studios on an updated Dark Engine.
Not quite. Rather than a remake, TDM takes place in a different universe, different characters etc. TDM is more what some fans of thief felt what TDS could of been.
That is a question for our coders. You'd want to ask Greebo or Orbweaver. You can register on our forum and talk to them about this.
