In The Dark Mod, you play a master thief living in a dark, sprawling city. A blend of gothic architecture and steampunk technology, the city contains great, belching chimneys, grand cathedrals, and medieval manor-houses. As a master of the shadows, you move through the city streets unseen, avoiding the eyes (and blades) of the city's thieves' guild, while doing jobs for the various political factions. Nobles, mages or the Church, it doesn't matter, as long as the pay is good.
In technical terms, our goal is to create a complete conversion of the Doom 3 platform, turning it into a stealth-based game. We have created new and improved AI, and new models and textures that support a 'steampunk' genre made popular by Looking Glass Studio's "Thief" franchise.
This mod is, first and foremost, a toolkit. Although it ships with some playable maps, our goal is to provide people with all the tools necessary to create their own Medieval Steampunk Fan Missions.

The response to the release of The Dark Mod has been very gratifying. There have been over 3000 downloads thus far, and the vast majority of the comments we've received have been very positive. Thanks to all those who took the time to offer feedback! Rest assured, we're working on several fixes and improvements for our first update (likely due sometime before the end of the year).
Be sure to visit our forums if you're having any problems installing TDM...we've also put together a FAQ on our wiki with solutions to common problems.
In other exciting news...although it's only been two weeks, we've already released our first new Fan Mission! Demagogue is the author of "Patently Dangerous", a city mission about inventor espionage. Get it on our Downloads page, and post comments here.

Great to see the mod finally released! I've been waiting a long time. Well done to all involved. However I am having problems. I used the small downloader program yesterday to install the mod. It seemed to run fine. However I could not play it because no missions appeared in the list of missions. The training mission and another pk4 mission file are in the fms folder but neither appear in the list of missions. Is there a simple solution? I am thinking of now downloading the zip file version to see if that may work.
Missions aren't included with the release. You can download them from Thedarkmod.com - there are three at the moment, and more will come later.
You misunderstand. I did download one mission and it is in the fms folder with the training mission. However neither mission appears in the list when I try to start a new mission.
Hmm, have you tried restarting your game? If they continue to not show up on the list, go to doom 3/darkmod/fms/ and create a folder for whatever fm you downloaded, so lets say for example: you downloaded outpost. Create a folder called outpost. Move outpost.pk4 into the folder. Open the .pk4 file with some sort of achiving program (like 7zip) and extract the following files: darkmod.txt, install_splash.tga, readme.txt and startingmap.txt.
Now go back into Darkmod and see if it appears on the list.
my only concern is the game might feel like thief deadly shadows, i kinda dis-liked it.
But seriously WOW, this is awesome work guys... you've got to be the best mod team out (no joke), release it as an indie game :P (of course you'd have to pay the makers of doom but i'm sure if you guys got popular enough they'd let you do it :P
Oh believe me, its nothing like Deadly Shadows. Its completely first person, no sparkling loot, no blue ambience, etc etc.
This sounds and looks very good tracking:)
Just 1 question WTH is Darkradiant? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I has to ask=P
Yes, Darkradiant is a heavily modified GTKradiant specifically designed for making Darkmod maps. You can use it for doom 3 and other doom 3 mods, but its main focus is TDM.
i guess its the gtk radiant forked for this mod
Yeah, this will be sweet! Cant wait to play!
