THE DARK MOD is a total conversion of Doom 3, inspired by the "Thief" series by Looking Glass Studios.
More like a professional game release than a mod, it includes creative new gameplay features, dozens of unique AI, and a complete set of custom art assets, allowing players and mappers alike to enjoy missions in a gothic steampunk universe. When you play The Dark Mod, you feel like you’re playing a gothic stealth game…there’s nothing left that’s recognizable from Doom 3.
The Dark Mod world can be viewed as an alternate version of our own. It is a mixture of several historical periods, with architecture ranging from medieval castles to Victorian mansions. In this world, steam and clockwork technology were discovered much earlier in history, allowing for odd inventions and industrial warehouses to exist side-by-side with Gothic cathedrals and sword-wielding city watch.
We also maintain our own mission editor, called Dark Radiant. It is an updated version of GTKRadiant, and has a lot new features (Python scripting support, many bug-fixes, new Particle preview, Texture Tool etc.) and comes with a number of Dark Mod related plug-ins like an Objectives or Conversation editor.

Over 30 missions are fully "Standalone" (Doom 3 free) in our internal TDM 2.0 build with most other missions nearly complete. We are well on-target for a standalone release this year.

7318's new Skybox code has been added to TDM 2.0 so now HL2 style 3D Skyboxes can be created. (Several veteran TDM mappers have waited for this fix for years...)

Great mod, must play for all thief fans. Contains great, userfriendly editor (To tell the truth, this mod is mainly the editor, and fans are making FMsú and a lot of super missions. Try it and you will be surprised.

Hello again. I seem to be getting flickering shadows.? I have got this before in a doom 3 mod called sikkmod which enhances the graphics and never figured it out until I disabled catalyst AI and changed the name of doom3.exe to Doom 3.exe. Now this only seems to happen with the doom 3 engine and I have no idea why. I have tried similar techniques with this mod but I either get a black title screen or it doesn't change at all. Any Ideas to how I can fix this? Oh this same shadow flickering/White dot tip shadow textures has also occurred in a Mod called Hexen edge Of Chaos, Another mod for doom 3. All the current doom 3 mods I have work because I run them through my Fixed Doom 3 game, but this has its own launcher. So it leads me to the same question again.
Q: Is There Any Specific Technique or Way To Fix This Shadow Flickering Problem? Thank you... Wonderful Mod
This is perfect because it actually feels like you are in a shadow where you can not be seen! I can wait for Thief 4 to come out and this will provide me some game time in waiting for it.!!! NICE!!!

So glad you guys are realizing the dream of an deep and complex thief-like titel!
There is not a lot of information about Thief 4, but Im pretty sure it is going to be a game with easy access and lower complexity then the old Thief games.

Well don't be so sure, I think they "whoever it is" learned their lesson after the restrictions that where placed on Thief 3. It will be a worthy sequel, just like how Deus Ex Human Revolution learned from Invisible Wars mistakes. And Plus those are both examples of how a very limited engine gave newer games a bad rap for small environments and bad design choices, thats not the case now. We only have to fear stream lining or lack of mod tools which I can't imagine happening to thief.
So 1.09 will be the standalone version, and i will not have to rebuy Doom 3(cause i have the BFG version)?
The Team is working to make TDM standalone for 1.09. That said, if the BFG source code is released in the interim, it may be possible to develop a way to load the BFG assets if the vanilla assets are not found (etc).
We hope so, but we are still missing some key assets. (Like animations of skeletons and zombies)
In the meantime, you can play several missions without Doom3 already, check thedarkmod.com forums..
