They don't seem very threatening.

Yes they need some melee weapons like knifes and other sharp edge tools.

Yeah we were thinking of having them carrying some type of stabbing weapon. The only problem with that is that based off the current access and what we can do with the Crysis engine, we can't add a custom attack for weapons. So if we did it would be them carrying weapons with no attack, so it's kind of a trade off there.

Then how do other mods add entirely new weapons?

It's easy enough to add weapons but there is currently no way to get an AI in Crysis to use a melee weapon without doing a whole custom system. They did not give documentation or allow the modders to easily modify the AI scripting used for melee. Range weapons work great but Crytek never even considered melee.

There are no single player Crysis mods with custom melee 3rd person animations. It just won't work. Like I said we could have the weapons yet no animations.

I'm not a coder, but aren't you guys able to do a 3ªp attack animation, attach a melee weapon to the hand of the NPC, make it play the animation when near the player, detect when the weapon collides with the player physics capsule and them subtract health from it?

If not, them the crysis SDK is not so open has i thought it was.

The animation system in Crysis isn't very open and certain things just don't work.

Here's my thought...if possible, add scary scream/groul sounds to them. When they see the player, they should scream or groul, and there should be multiple such sounds so as to not sound repetitive...

But I swear there are, I've seen plenty of Crysis mods, even one that was melee medieval combat with great animations.

You can do it in first person view so i.e. if we wanted to have the player swing an axe that would be easy to do. That is why making a singleplayer game is many times more challenging then multiplayer in many ways. But to enable the default Crysis human ai to use a melee weapon IS NOT possible to my knowledge. You can get them to swing randomly but there is no way to actually control it with consistency.

If you have a link to one that does, then I would love to see it, but as far as Crysis is concerned we are one of the most technical singleplayer teams out there and we have massive issues with it. You need to remember singleplayer and multiplayer mods are created differently when it comes to Crysis.

Description

First off this video is pretty dark so you might want to adjust your brightness a bit. The final mod will have a gamma slider for brightness adjustment. As it stands it is adjusted for my machines.

Here is one of the characters we have been working on for a while. The Cthulhu cultist is a normal human who has been twisted by the influence of the Great Old Ones. They wear masks shaped like Cthulhu showing their devotion to him.

The cultist in The Island of Cthluhu has been given a strength and speed far above those of an average human. Even though they lack high intelligence, they make up for it with a fierce and deadly attack. Once alerted they will stalk the player relentlessly unless they escape to a safe distance. In order to deal with their large numbers and fiendish personality, the player needs to either explore for the necessary survival tools or try and use stealth to keep hidden.

The video also demonstrates the custom melee AI created for the mod since Crysis contains no melee AI at all. The AI responds to light and sound so the player can use stealth to stay away from the creatures. The AI is faster then the player so the player will have to use agility and their brains to escape. In the video we have a powered up weapon with unlimited ammo making them pretty easy. In the full game they are VERY tough. They will kill you quickly and surround you if you are not careful.

THE VIDEO DOES NOT REPRESENT THE FINAL STATE OF THE AI OR THE MOD.
