The Core T-shirt

Unfortunately due to Urby's new job / new baby / new house, we've had to postpone releasing the actual Q&A video, but it shouldn't take too much longer. I keep telling him that The Core is more important than his infant child, but the fool seems to think otherwise. I'll keep pestering him, but in the meantime thankyou so much for all your brilliant questions; there are so many more than we expected!

Picking the winner wasn't easy, either. In the end it was extremely close between JeffMOD, TheSkunk & flippedoutkyrii. JeffMOD won it because we think it prompted the most interesting answers!

Not to worry, though! There will be more competitions in the near future, not to mention the actual mod's release!

If you're dying to show your support and get your hands on a shirt before the next competition, gimme a private message for a special order. Because we're not buying in bulk, shirts cost £25 including post and packaging.

Sorry to keep you waiting!

Well looks great.. but since I can't play ANY mods on my PC anymore I will not be able to play it when it comes out.. really frustrating to think about it.

But keep up the work!

Yeah, not sure why you wouldn't be able to play mods, unless you didn't own Half-Life, or if your PC doesn't run games or something...

Well I tried to get Half-Life Blue Shift on my NGHL client and since then it just crashes when I try to play any mod for Half-Life 1. And on Steam too... but I can play HL1 somehow...

I dunno about NGHL, but if mods aren't working on steam it sounds like your installation is knackered. I'd consider reinstalling if you haven't already.

I'm sorry if this question has already been asked and/or answered, but are you not going to sell this as a standalone game? I mean, this is too good. It's obvious that a lot of effort is being put into this mod, so I thought: why not put it on Steam Greenlight and sell it through Steam?
Given how much hard work is being done on this mod, I think it would be fair to sell it through Steam as long as it's not too expensive. What do you think?

Though it is a nice idea, it is not at all possible for us to sell this commercially. We would need a license to sell a standalone game based on the GoldSource engine. Even if the license was still available, it would not come cheap. Then there is the content to consider. A lot of it is third party and the creators would not be best pleased if we started selling their hard work.

As for Greenlight, we have way too much third party content from modellers to consider it. While the models are used with permission and full credit is being given, redistributing their work is a can of worms we don't really want to open up. :P

Wait, you need license even for GoldSrc? I thought it was free and license was only required for Source engine ($25000). I tried to look up info about this, but haven't found anything reliable that would clarify all this licensing stuff specifically for goldsource engine.

Come to think of it, Black Mesa and The Stanley Parable are being sold on Steam. And they're on Source engine. Did the developers pay the licensing fee of Source ($25000) themselves? Or did Valve do something about it? xD

Anyway, good luck with the mod! ^_^

I'm not sure what the deal is with Source to be honest. Most likely that Valve stepped in and pitched something their way.

With regards to GoldSource, since it's not our engine we would need to go through Valve in order to get the rights to see their code. Were that even possible, we're using Spirit of Half-Life as a base so there is another bunch of people we would need to settle with.

As I said, it's a nice idea, but basically impossible.

Thanks for your comments. :)
