Several sites featured our news article as thousands of Internet goers shared and retweeted. Reactions were mixed of course. For every person saying that the GoldSource engine still held up today, another would ask "What's the point?"

We have voiced our opinions on the GoldSource engine before in our Q&A videos. It's a part of gaming history, it's classic, it's clunky, it's frustrating, it's... lovable. The sheer number of projects both long running and new on this now 16 year old engine just goes to show that several people still have a special place in their heart for what is essentially a finely mangled Quake engine. :D

We don't expect to get anywhere near as many votes as last year, but we appreciate all the support we get from our followers and if you feel we're still worthy.

Would you say GoldSrc acts as a "positive limitation"? Meaning that you don't have to make everything super high poly with normal and specular maps, etc. Simply because the engine itself cannot handle it.

And follow up question to Urby: Was this one of the reasons to pick GoldSrc over Source?

From what little experience I've had with Source at this point, I've actually enjoyed texture creation. GoldSource is limited but you can ramp up the poly count as much as you like. GoldSource is much more friendly to non-modellers such as myself and Archie because props can be made with brushes.

That said, it's not the reason why I went with Goldsource to begin with. I was just far more experienced with the engine that I was with Source.

A lot of the aspects of Source mapping are similar but far more advanced. If I had started this mod in Source it would have died long ago, just another, terrible looking, noob mod. :)

We're still not able to give an exact date, but we're still hard at work on it. All we can say for now is "as soon as possible."
