7 comments by Urby on Dec 3rd, 2014

Several sites featured our news article as thousands of Internet goers shared and retweeted. Reactions were mixed of course. For every person saying that the GoldSource engine still held up today, another would ask "What's the point?"

We have voiced our opinions on the GoldSource engine before in our Q&A videos. It's a part of gaming history, it's classic, it's clunky, it's frustrating, it's... lovable. The sheer number of projects both long running and new on this now 16 year old engine just goes to show that several people still have a special place in their heart for what is essentially a finely mangled Quake engine. :D

We don't expect to get anywhere near as many votes as last year, but we appreciate all the support we get from our followers and if you feel we're still worthy.

For old times sake, here are some of the most popular images from 2014.

Take any of the screenshots we've uploaded and imagine a gun on the right hand site of the screen. There's your gameplay.

Otherwise, what Archie said. :P

Have you played Half-Life? It's exactly like that, but completely different.

In seriousness, though, gameplay footage will be released when we're confident that it's at a level of quality matching or surpassing that of the media we have already posted. I'm sorry that this is an issue for you, but we don't want to prematurely release something. Hit the track mod button to be notified when gameplay videos are released and thanks for taking the time to comment! :)

Haven't checked this mod's page in ages and i surely regret it. This mod has one the best, no, the best indoor and outdoor mapping I have ever seen done in the GldSource engine. The maps are all made like places we could see in real life. The details are amazing, nothing seems out of place or absurd, like we see in most HL1 mods or even HL itself. The lighting, the textures and mapping, all blend in and create the classic HL1 atmosphere we all know, though with a strong addition of originality in it. Congratulations to anyone involved in this, The Core is one of the best, most splendid and well done mods I have ever seen in Moddb. Keep going and I am sure when this is out, it will be one of the best HL1 experiences we had in a long time. Good luck to everyone and of course...voted!
