The Core is a total conversion single-player mod for Half-Life. Survive the disaster as Maurice Andrews, a low level engineer stationed in Black Mesa during the events of the resonance cascade. Seemingly trapped, Andrews must fight his way to the surface to survive.

Awesome job!
Might I suggest a piece of broken grate on the floor?

Wow, I was trying to dissect the image and look for good points and flaws, but never thought of that. Good job.

And as for mine; Have you considered removing the bright-green, sickly light for either a dark colour, or red light? It really breaks-up the sense the red one has.

I like the green light, it contrasts the red one nicely.

The green light... a sign? ^^

I do like the green/red contrast but what's wrong with the light is mostly its texture. Compared to its surroundings its way too clean. That's the reason why it stands out so much. Plus it's very noticeable that it consists out of one rectangular box. I'd change the texture to something darker and smudgier and also add more details to it. Actually flesh out the box around it and the tubes either as world geometry or replace it with a model.

I guess making it 'blend in' wouldn't be a bad idea.

Another tactic would be to have either the distance of the casting range tweaked, or, and my personal choice; oppose another one to the opposite wall and make them some key features. Bigger, Glarier and more a part of the room they are now.

I agree.

People on MODDB seem to downvote the member, regardless of the comment. It's petty. Upvoted and thanks for the feedback.

Oh, thank you.

And as a side note, any community on the internet will have its bad factors, but I do wish MODDB could be more up-beat with its administration.

Anyway, I'm cluttering your and Archie's work. We can stop the thread. :)

That's one angry looking headcrab!

I love the atmosphere of this picture, and your use of light flares. Did you make these sprites yourself? If not, I would love to know where to get them! :)

Our visual effects expert Archie will have to get back to you. I've kicked him in our development chat app.

I'm sure he's told me where he got them but it's not often I actually listen to him.

Hi MrGnang, cheers for the comment! My day to day work involves a lot of After Effects use, and I have several Optical Flare plugins for it which were easy enough to convert to sprites for The Core. The one from this image, known as the 'Jay Jay' is available here for the very reasonable price of $125:

Myeah it does look like a boxy corridor, the layout could be broken a bit, maybe add some greebling.

Heh, wow. Thanks for all the feedback guys. This is still work in progress as the title suggests. There is still a lot to do. :D

- The green light is intentional, the brightness isn't. This area of black mesa is old and putrid. The texture and its lighting values will be changed.

- This also helps with highlighting areas for the player, with green being reds complimentary colour. The same way a lot of oranges and yellows are uses to guide the player in the darker blue lab areas shown previously.

You haven't exactly established yourself a good reputation around these parts. At all...

But I agree with you, it's totally uncalled for and people should give you a chance. Or at least not abuse the downvote button. >.>

I haven't? I think people are too sensitive. Either you love their work or are Hitler.

Edit; So you're saying their thought-pattern is 'Oh, look, that comment, which I may or may not agree with was posted by some-one who likes to point-out flaws in things, he deserves some karma!'? Seems about fit.
