The Citizen is set parallel to the events of the original Half-Life 2. The player takes the role of an ordinary man, pushed over the edge by the oppressive regime controlling his life. His home trashed, his family dead, The Citizen leaves his apartment for the last time. He seeks new friends, and a way to help the human resistance to smash the iron grip of the Combine. What follows is a winding tale of betrayal, determination and grief. Many obstacles lie in his path which require a sleek combination of agility, stealth, intelligence, and sheer violence to overcome.

Originally released in November 2007 and re-released in February 2008, this singleplayer episode is still in the making, and 3 more chapters will be added to the two existing ones.
You can follow the sequel progress here.

v 1.1 has a different ending area if you have found all the easter eggs. However, given that these are the first 2 of probably 8 chapters, there is no real conclusion to the story.

The minimum time to finish it is around 1h 45 min - 2 hours. First time playing it will probably be around 2 and a half hours depending on your skills.

It's a great mod with pretty decent voice acting imo (it's really hard to do this without professional actors and a studio). It's a good thing that there are alot of cooperative parts in the game. It makes you feel like you're part of a resistance movement, it would have probably felt more of the same otherwise.

The easter eggs are a nice addition as well, it keeps me playing to find every one of them. The one thing I kinda disliked was the frequent loading and the sometimes unclear objectives. But it didn't really spoil the experience. Looking very much forward to Chapter 2.

Loading times will be an issue we will fix for the following chapters. But to be honest, the loading points are less frequent than what you find in the original HL2 City 17 maps. Think of that map where the only thing that happened was seeing Dog fighting with the APC, for example.

Played through the mod last night and thought it was pretty well done. It was fun!

The only thing that slightly irked me, though, was the voice acting.

The Citizen was a good game. Not spectacular but pretty good. Had a decent bend to the HL2 story line, and added the unprecedented stealth element into HL2 at some parts of the game.

At one part of the game you're supposed to pick up a Super Soldier outfit and disguise yourself and proceed to walk through this stairwell full of guards. Well, I thought the disguise was at the end of all these guards and I had to go get the disguise to get access to the doors so I spent literally 40 or 50 minutes trying to sneak my way past this whole stairwell of guards. I got pretty damn far, too.

Then I realised that the disguise was right there at the foot of it all.
