Set in and around City 17, "The Citizen Part Two" contains the next three chapters of our citizen's story. After the events of the previous two chapters, you find yourself rescued from the grave by rebels, among whom you are now a valuable asset. Taken to a makeshift field hospital, you recover in the hands of rebel medics. But the Combine are determined to crush the rebels out of existence, and the peace can't last long. You will face choices, and how you decide to proceed will ultimately dictate how the story plays out for you. Some choices are less obvious than others, and require you to take initiative where you otherwise might be distracted. One way or another, it's time to take back the city.

The Citizen Returns site now in Moddb Small breakthrough Prop examples

In the following days, hopefully, the Moddb profile for the next release will be authorized and available in the following link, where we will post any new media and news.

We have decided to name the mod "The Citizen Returns" instead of "The Citizen Part III" because it will include the maps that made up Part II, and because this 17-map mod is what we originally intended to release as a sequel to 2008's "The Citizen" (it will be evident if you re-watch the first trailer for Part II).

The mod profile states that the release will take place around May. Hopefully all the voice acting and private playtesting will be done by then. It's a realistic date.

We really want to put this behind us and concentrate on Random Quest II.

The engine for which it ran, AppID 215, is no longer supported by Valve. Even if you edit the gameinfo.txt in the mod folder to make it appear in Steam and run, it will eventually crash. Wait a few months or so for the full release. It'll be worth it.

I finally have a stable version of the mod running, although I'm not sure if it will work with Ep2 or will need HL2 installed too.

Most of the issues that need fixing are the different way the engine code has of handling scripted_sequences. AppID 215 did it differently, and AppID 420 has a horrible habit of getting stuck on looped sequences, not displaying certain animations that worked before, etc.

Slowly, I have been sorting most problems out (the map where you rescue Larry is proving difficult to fix due to the sheer amount of sequences) while implementing the rest of the voice acting.

Subtitles for 100% of the mod dialog will be available, although I'm not sure if we'll add close captions for languages other than English and Spanish.

I'm also on the thread considering using HDR lighting. It seems our custom 2D skyboxes would need to be edited or else outdoors HDR is impossible right now.

I've just done another play through of the Citizen 1 and 2. I still remember when I first played the first one back in 2009. Funny to think that was 5 years ago now and the mod is still fun. I really hope you're able to finish Part 3 as I'm still waiting for the epic finale to the series. ;)

With the steampipe conversion of Half-life 2 etc, the current engine build we were using for The Citizen 2&3 is pretty much gone from the editor and impossible to set up properly. I have been doing some testing with the Ep2 engine but it brings up more issues than it solves.

Playbus and I are more fans of the content creation part of the modding process than the engine/bugs/fixing aspect of it, which is why we have been making some very nice progress with Random Quest II.

We will shortly make a decision on what will happen with the unreleased maps. Ingame text messages instead of the missing voice acting is even a possibility at this point. We'll see.

Also, There won't be a separte "Part 3" release. The maps from The Citizen Part 2 have been improved upon since 2010 and would be released along with the remaining maps.

I'm glad there is still activity here. I don't have much time to play mods but I did play through the citizen mods and also enjoyed watching Youtube playthroughs of them with funny commentaries. I am amazed at how many scripted sequences there are.

The very technical aspects of mod making can become so soul killing. Very much.

But hang in there! So much work went into these episodes already would be a shame to lose it.

Since I wrote my previous comment I have been able to fix all of the game-breaking bugs in 16 of the 17 maps, so we can consider that very, very good news.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod a great deal. Meticulously well mapped with regard to the multitude of structural levels with a wonderful array of interior styles ! Visuals were excellent - from the TOD lighting, texturing, decals ( loved that bank banner ! ) along with the emphasis on a wide array of art throughout ( which I really appreciated ). Loved the the constant usage of strong colors from beginning to end as well. A moment on the Casino - loved it ! The amount of thought, time and effort taken…
