The Call of the Fireflies is a puzzle-based singleplayer mod for Crysis. There's no guns, explosions or nanosuits involved. Just an old man who follows mysterious fireflies through mountains and dark caves, sleeping villages and frozen woods, and has to use all kinds of mechanisms to open his path, while battling to stay alive in the winter cold.

Loved this mod, it's the kind of thing I've been wanting to make with Cryengine/Crysis since it came out. The puzzles were not too major challenging but provided interest and the gameplay was pretty varied. Everything was beautifully paced and introduced, and it's very clear to me that you have highly developed level design and artistic skills.

I only wish the "final area" of the game and the wind mechanic it introduced could have been explored further - it felt the area could have provided a good amount of deep gameplay to exploration, but the wind was used only as a narrative device (of sorts) in the end for a brief moment.

But on that note, one of the best SP mods I've played and I'm so glad someone did a mod style like this for Crysis - because I love exploring, and that game just begged for something like this to be made for it! :)

AMAZING! the best custom map released for Crysis. Graphically beautiful yet distinguishes itself from the original.

Puzzle game play is great which is missing in Crysis games. (most custom maps are mindless shooters)

Dialogue is short, would have loved to have it go through to the end. Great voice actor.

Only suggestion is to import custom animals into the environments to keep the player on the edge (looking out for them and having to hide from them temporarily), the signs give you the feeling their out there.

Completed it thanks for the map enjoyed it very much, plans to expand this into a decent size campaign? or perhaps a second part? look forward to it, keep it up very professional!

BTW - I see you have the same bug I am experiencing in my mod. When I first play the mod your custom particle effects are visible but when I reload the game, they are invisible. My mod, "The Mutant Factor" does this in both Crysis and Crysis Wars! I have lights on the phones that signal for the player to listen to a message and they vanish sometimes when I reload the level. It does not happen all of the time but enough to greatly annoy me!! Great work BTW!!

Cryengine 2 is woefully neglected when it comes to the modding realm, often attributed instead as a building block for thousands and thousands of mods and levels completely identical to the base game. The expanse of the SDK and level designer go often ignored, users instead wishing to create the same old action game against north koreans over and over again. Despite this gigantic stereotype Call of the Fireflies stands out as a mournful memento of a time almost past, and that time is what could…
