The Ball is a singleplayer action and puzzle mod for Unreal Tournament 3. It competes in the MakeSomethingUnreal Contest, and it has won three first prizes in so far (Best Gametype - 2 x Best Use of Physics), and one 3rd place (Best Mod). Additionally it has won the ModDB MOTY Best Singleplay Mod of 2008 award.
The Ball offers an adventure that puts you in the boots of a geologist who gets stuck in a cavern and bumps onto an ancient and Mesoamerican complex holding a mysterious ball. While making your way through the internal workings of ancient ziggurats, golden cities, and huge caverns, your only companion is a giant gold and metal-shelled ball, a mysterious artifact in its own right, that you use to make your way through a series of rooms and caverns, and to crush enemies with. As you progress through the mod, slowly the real purpose of this gigantic complex becomes clear, and you are sucked into a thousands of years old story of betrayal and secrecy.
The mod is episodic in nature, and knows a release every three to six months. So far two parts have been released: Pehua, and Oztoc. Part 3, Teotl, is set for a release in May 2009.
The Ball is designed and directed by Hourences and has a 13 people strong international team working on it: Toltec Studios.

The Ball's Grand Finals submission for the Make Something Unreal contest is set for release on November the 10th. We are well on track, and have entered beta 1 a few days ago. Beta 2 is set for Thursday or Friday.
This will be the final mod release of The Ball, and features two new levels. One new survival level, and one new campaign level. The campaign level offers about half an hour of gameplay in an all new environment, with an all new enemy, and a new approach on combat.
What we have is basically a big new enemy that cannot be killed by simply rolling the ball over him. You have to modify the ball first to make it more lethal. For example, you can attach landmines to the ball and while the ball rolls around the mines fall off, one by one, and you must try to make the Tlaloc walk over the mines. Another thing we have is Electricity. You can charge up the ball in a machine and if it comes close enough to some kind of ancient tesla coil device a deadly arch of electricity will form between the ball and the tesla coil. Our third new combat feature is to bake the ball in an oven. When it comes out of the oven it is glowing red, and burns everything it touches.
What's new?
- Cahua I - An entire new level set in the depths of the volcano. The second last level!

- Electricity and Mines - New gameplay. Charge the ball with electricity or attach mines to it.
- Survival Changes - A combo system and a brand new awesome level.

Loads of new screenshot!
The environment meshes were made by Lukas Arvidsson. The level by Sklare, Daze, and Hourences. The survival level in this release is by Nelson. The Tlaloc (yes that big monster) was done by Elusive and animated by Whackzero. And all the programming to get all of this to work was performed by Markus Arvidsson. All music and sound design by Theodore Wohng

Is The Ball Hueca the full 2ed part of The Ball Teotl or is this like the 1st releases 1 chapter at a time?
It is the 4th part. Pehua, Oztoc, and Teotl have been released already in the past.

One of the best mods I have had the pleasure to enjoy. I wish more mods would stray from the path and engineer some new and varied game play such as this. Keep up the great work. I am eagerly awaiting the next episode.
You should release all the episodes in one pack and make an easy installer for UT3 mod nubs (who certainly don't include me :P)
