The Ancient Mediterranean MOD features a complete modification of Civilization IV. The game now only takes place in the times of Egypt, Rome, and Carthage. It is a complete overhaul of Civilization IV that leaves the basic mechanics of Civilization IV intact.

- Reduced War Weariness, especially if your side is winning
- Increased the visual appearance of cities, they grow larger
- Modified several maps
- Ships can cross into enemy territory
- Greek Bireme gets free combat 1 promotion
- Reduced distance maintenance
- Barbarians should also spawn Biremes in the water, but half as many per tile as with land units
- Barbarian cities are more likely to spawn
- Barbarian cities have more defenders
- AI bonus units are slightly reduced at the high difficulty levels
- Caravans now 5 hammers = 1 gold, 4 hammers = 1 culture
- Modified Huge Map for Carthage, Nubia and Egypt.
- Added Land of the Bow flag decal for Nubia.
- Fixed various Text errors.
- Increased AI aggression toward other AI players - more wars.
- Applied different AI personalities to each leader.
- Fixed ?power? rating of units so the AI has a better understanding of who is stronger or weaker.
- Decreased unit maintenance costs for AI at all difficulty levels to offset increased overall maintenance (hopefully temporary).
- Javelineers now get +75% vs HVY and +100% vs CAV.
- Modified City Upkeep: Now city size is more important than before, number of cities less important.
- Added new process: Caravans. Gives some gold in the early game.
- New map: TAM Fertile Crescent Huge (Mycenae, Kolchis, Media, Babylon, Sarmatia, Nubia, Phoenicia, Hittites, Minoans)
- New map: TAM Mediterranean Huge (Babylon, Carthago, Egypt, Gaul, Germanic Tribes, Dacia, Hittites, Iberia, Persia, Kolchis, Lydia, Mycenae, Phoenicia, Rome, Scythia, Media, Britons, Nubia)
- New civilization: Tartessia
- Added Heroes: Unique Unit, National Unit (1 allowed), all Medic Promotions (more to come!)
- Added three new civ traits: Seafaring, Productive, Agricultural (refer to Pedia for details)
- Added six new combat civ traits: Marksmanship, Skirmisher, Raider, Tactician, Saddleback, Imperialist
- Reshuffled Civ traits. ?Barbarians? have 1 normal trait and 1 combat trait. Empires have 2 normal traits and 1 combat trait
- Fixed Carthage?s Hadrumentum Bug
- Fixed text errors in non-English versions by removing support for RU, JP, and CN language.
- Horseman now uses Mounted Warrior with Spear gfx
- Light Cavalry now uses Companion Cavalry gfx
- Ionian Cavalry now uses Great General / Alexander gfx
- Persian Medium Cavalry now uses Arabian Cavalry gfx
- Mountain Rider now uses Keshik gfx
