I'm sure that a lot of you are familiar with the Haunted mod. It is a great mod for ut3 found here on moddb. The mod currently only has three maps. A lot of people have asked for more, and have asked where there are any custom maps. Finding these maps is pain, but now I'm bringing them all to you.

Report article TH Editor Tutorial

Basic Mapping/Technical.

Hey everybody, I'm ready to give you the info you need to make your very own Haunted map :) good or bad :).

What we will go over-  1. How to make monsters
2. Finding Haunted custom meshes and materials
3. Getting things that you can't find
4. Haunted map music
 5. Haunted weapons
6. Vaultable objects and climable objets
7. anything else I think of (lol)

OK I promise this will be short and sweet. :) .

First up. If you want monsters in your map, you want pathnodes. Pathnodes, which normally give bots somewhere to go,  will spawn monsters in the Haunted. The best way to figure out where to put your nodes, is to look at the Haunted developer maps and see how they did them:
C: \Users \your user \Documents \My Games\ Unreal Tournament 3 \HauntedGame \published  \maps_schlauchi
Here you will find them, and any maps you have added. Just open stronghold, or temple or something.

Next up, if you want your map to have all those really cool static meshes and materials the Haunted team made, you can find them here: C: \Users \your user \Documents \My Games \Unreal Tournament 3 \HauntedGame \published

Just open the stuff in some of those content folders into your generic browser. The one to open is probably going to be Content_HEGI, it has the most stuff.

Third. Anything that you can't find, just copy from another map and paste into yours. Such as destructable boards. To copy something, select an object and then click the white notecards, inbetween the scissors and clipboard on the top of the editor window. To paste just right click some where in your map, look to the top of the list and click paste here.

Fourth. haunted map music. To put music in your map, all you need to do is go to your generic browser, actor classes. Then click info, select TH_Levelmusicinfo and put it somewhere in your map, it will look like a horses head. Now select it, then press F4. The properties window will come up, click the th_levelmusicinfo tab. Now just lock the properties window.
Now open your generic browser, uncheck all your boxes, and check all the sound boxes, and the map music box. Now go open the folder Music_Jackmenhorn. In the browser you should see some different outlined black boxes. Select the first one that is outlined in cyan, it should be Haunted ambient 1 forever music.
Now go back to your levelmusicinfo and add this sound to everything in the levelmusicinfo tab via clicking the green arrow next to each one, while that first black box is selected. After that you will have music in your map.

Fifth, adding weapons for the Haunted is easy. Just go to actor classes, navigation point, pickup factory, TH pickup factory, Th pickup factory weapon, and they are all there. What you want is Flamer(flamethrower), freezer (nitrogen launcher), Dynamite (duh), and sniper rifle (also duh).

Alright to make things vaultable, just make a volume the size of the object you want to be vaultable with the builder brush. Then right click the add volume box and select TH-Volume_climb. There are also some other TH volumes there which are pretty self explanitory. Sometimes you may have to adjust the volumes, becuase you make vault through the object :)

       To make a ladder, find the ladder in C: \Users \your user\ Documents\ My Games \Unreal Tournament 3 \HauntedGame \published \Content_Hegi \levels3

Then copy and paste a ladder volume, and the climb direction actor(another horse head you can find at the bottom of a ladder in a Haunted developer map). You ladder should then work.

Alright one thing I just remembered...soulstones. Match wouldn't last long without them. To place a soul stone, go to actor classes, pawn, and look for TH_Soulstonebase, but don't click it! Just highlight it, so that it is selected, then right click somewhere in your map and add it. Remember to place some soulstones in places that are easy to reach, and some in hard to reach spots.

A final note that is very important. Testing your Haunted maps is imperative. You must test a lot to monster AI working naturally, which requires working with moving or deleting, or placing pathndoes a lot. Patience will reward you in the end though. :)

Ok that should be everything. If you have any questions ask and I will do my best to answer. Have fun mapping. The Haunted needs a mapping community. :)
