Description

Terminus Machina is a total conversion mod for Deus Ex. It takes place in its own completely original world, which might be best described as "In-progress-apocalyptic" as opposed to post-apocalyptic, and hones an updated cyberpunk lens over the difficult issues of our troubled times. TM attempts more radical gameplay alterations, in contrast with longer, 'canon' mods. This download is the official beta.

If possible, could you try skipping the intro cinematic with escape? I seem to be having a problem starting the game on my end, but it looks like it might just be my computer.

Bugs are a few, for instance some speech loops back on itself, like story progressing stuff.

Also you cant skip the start intro, which kinda sucks... thankfully the intro is well done so i dont mind it TOO much.

Do you know which part has the speech looping back? Are you talking about the training mission?

ok check these NPCs out,

1. Tron when u first meet him with his SOS message, and the story messages

2. The ex-corporate stripper chick, check it out too.

3. there might be one more, the photovellic dude in the abandoned apartment who needs help or his family will starve.

4. double check the old man in the store, I THINK it might be looping too, but nah it should be fine.

thats it. so far anyway.

Hmm... When I attempt to launch it from the shortcut, it tries to find
C:\deusex\system\sstm.exe
And it says that the specified path couldn't be found.
Is it actually expecting that my Deus Ex exists in C:? I have it on my D: drive.
Is there something to do to make it work on D:?

Try changing the targets in the shortcut:

C:\DeusEx\System\sstm.exe INI="C:\DeusEx\System\Terminus.ini" USERINI="C:\DeusEx\System\TerminusUser.ini" -h4x0r

To point to "D:" drives instead.

A few things, if I try to go up the stairs in the high school/club everyone shoots at me even if I wear nohface looking like a guard, if I press new game my current equipment/stats are saved which means that if you first play the tutorial then press new game you start with tons of skillpoints and master in hacking, when you log into the hax gen network and download the recipes/schematics you only save the ones for the solar coat and the anti-drone coat, not the ones for lockpicks and multitools.
Also, some more info about how plats and fertilizers work would be great, the skill about nature (naturepunk is it?) is rather vague about what it does on expert level.

Aside from the bugs, the voice-acting is great, there's a lot of immersion, the mechanics are interesting and easy to use, installation was a bit of a hassle (had to make a new shortcut to sstm) and I look forward to a bug-fix.

Thanks for the feedback! Working on these issues. The Naturepunk basically just lets you use the plants and increases the amount of benefit you get from using plants and animal items. I wouldn't upgrade naturepunk all the way yet though, as the higher-level bonuses are still in the works. There should be some plant-related schematics including the fertilizer somewhere in the game, in one of the GRAM chips.

Dear SilverSpook,
First of all, AWESOME MOD!!!!!!! The building things from scrap as well as different augmentations as well as different upgrade canisters is a very well thought of idea and it works well. Brings a lot of realism to the game. Another thing - the idea with carry bags is EPIC!!! I've always had problems carrying extra items, but no more :) That was a good choice you made there. There are many bugs but they don't make the mod unplayable, the difficulty makes it challenging and fun as well, but any harder and it would be a huge problem lol....
As for things that could be improved, a bigger map would be nice, just for the sake of exploration and side-quests. Also, when picking up fertilizers and a couple of other objects, they come in pairs, so when you drop one, you get double the amount if you pick it up again.

Wow, thanks for that excellent review! Maybe consider adding a review to the review section of the mod. :) I was definitely going for a tougher game than vanilla DX but good to hear it was at least playable. I'm definitely going to look into those changes you suggested and am working on a patch ATM. Thanks again for playing and the feedback!

I agree. I really like the idea of a bigger map as well, as I like to explore large maps and scavenge resources. It's a neat gameplay mechanic.

Definitely a beta phase project. Good deal of cool things being sought out, and definitely a lot of ground to cover.

Bugs I found:
-Talking to the "big guy" near the highschool/splice girls hangout causes game to freeze.
-Some buff guy meshed characters were using improper shirt textures, causing small black "rifts" on their sleeves and etc
-Some icons (like copper wire) does not have the icon masked properly
-Picking up multiple Gram chips stacks them and consequently causes their properties to sync. (activate #1 gives you recipes A B C and so does activating #2 instead of the proper D E F)

A tidbit of code that will stop them from stacking on the same slot of it their contents are different (has been tested and is quite secure, like bob page's compound):

function bool HandlePickupQuery( inventory Item )
{
local GramChip C;
local int i;

if (item.IsA('GramChip')) C = GramChip(Item);

if (C != None)
if (C.Class == Self.Class)
{
for(i=0; i<10; i++)
{
if (C.Schematics[i] != Schematics[i] || C.Images[i] != Images[i] || C.Phaces[i] != Phaces[i]) return false;
}
}

else
return Super.HandlePickupQuery(Item);
}

-various crafting items can be activated and deactivated with no effect
-the purchase window for trade has some icons at a bad offset, leaving them poking out of the background for them to lay within.

Good luck!

I seem to be unable to install the Mod, I'm not sure if it's perhaps because I was perhaps of the alpha testing team? If not, its probably because I'm terrible at installing mods to anything.

Hi SilverSpook,

Even though it's been years, I'm still feeling keen for an update with more missions and bigger maps...... Do you have any plans for this?

Cheers,

Mil.

Hi milinm,

Thanks for playing and your support!

There is always the possibility, but unfortunately I don't have the time at the moment for the scale of game dev that an expanded Terminus Machina or Terminus Machina II would deserve.

I have been kicking around the idea of crowdfunding (i.e. Kickstarter campaign) a bigger, better, awesomer version of Terminus Machina which would feed a core "engine" of developers from 2D/3D artist to mappers to programmers, with myself as design director, spiritual guru, resident game Tyrant, etc...

Another possibility is porting all of Terminus Machina to an entirely new engine, one which might make things easier to implement and debug, and less legally un-sellable (Eidos or whomever owns rights to DX and so we can't sell Terminus Machina).

I tried along with a small team of volunteers to put out a big expansion pack of levels and such, but it was difficult to materialize without the kind of continuous, undivided attention that I put into this total conversion from 2011-2012 when I created it. I just don't have that kind of time with work and a wife and kids to take care of now, sorry.

So the TLDR: a reboot/resurrection/full-length version of Terminus Machina is possible, but it depends on the kind of support that can be rallied by the fans.
