Team Fortress v1.0
Apr 15, 2008 Full Version 0 commentsThe VERY FIRST public release of Team Fortress (August 1996)! Includes source code. (Infact it's all there is)
Team Fortress is a revolutionary class-based mod supporting from 2 to 4 teams in various gameplay modes of capture the flag, capture and hold, and hunted. I will try to fill this profile with as much OFFICIAL TF (no variants/mods) files I can fill.

a rare one :) Historical version 1.3, released on Halloween 1996.
This is the Team Fortress 2.8 release, released 5/23/1998
This is the released source code for the 2.5 version of Team Fortress.
This is Team Fortress, version 2.5, released on 6/13/1997.
Highest Rated (5 agree) 10/10
What else is there to say. It was 1997 and I met a buddy in highschool who introduced me to this game. The rest is history. Never before had I encountered a first person shooter game with class based team play. You were always fearful of crossing the bridge in 2fort5 because of elite snipers. As a spy you actually disguised as an enemy and could feign death. Enemies would hide in the shadows and wait for ambush. Grenades galore where available for each class. This is one of the best mods ever created…

TF and TFC were great, and will be great forever. TF2 started out fantastic, but then, kinda became just garbage, when VALVE introduced achievement weapons. Cause then, the boosting servers came out. Then, the game got worse when VALVE introduced pickups. Because, then, the people who worked hard to get said achievement weapons don't have an edge to the person who installed the game 5 minutes ago and picked up some weapon within his first minute of playing. Then, hats and crafting. Probably the worst idea VALVE has ever had. For a minute there, people thought VALVE was becoming Activision. And then, the game became free. Which utterly ruined TF2 forever. TFC is in the end, better than TF2. Shame that TF and TFC are abandoned these days.
>>Then, hats and crafting. Probably the worst idea VALVE has ever had. For a minute there, people thought VALVE was becoming Activision.
Hats: purely cosmetic. How does that break the game?
Crafting: if I didn't get the weapon I want by pickup, at least I could craft it.
Trading: If I were a newbie and I found my first hat, I'd gladly trade it out to get a tonne of weapons I can play around and experiment with.
And please don't start with the cash shop.
1) You don't need to pay any money to get every weapon in the game, unless you really, really care about weapon cosmetics. The only exceptions to this are the sun-on-a-stick and sharpened volcano fragment, which are both weak.. and you can just get them through trading anyway.
2) That said, paying money for hats? You probably think it's beyond silly. I agree, and so do a vast majority of tf2 players, but wealthy people will be wealthy and purchase them. It makes Valve happy because they continue to earn revenue, it keeps us happy because we don't have to pay anything if we don't want to. Nobody loses.
3) If you argue that some weapon sets are only completed with the complementing hat, think of the hat as "more weapons". They're inexpensive (ranging between 2 to 4 refs each) so you can really just trade for them if you're really desperate about it. The sets are all quite bad, imo, except for the milkman set which has no drawbacks. I first raged when I read the update where you need hats to complete the set, thinking it'd take me ages to obtain them and so I'd lose an edge to other players who have them. But after an entire year or so, I think almost all the sets are just terrible.
>>And then, the game became free.
F2P is truly terrible. I agree with you here, nothing more needs to be said about this matter.
flurk TF2 getting F2P is the best decision Valve made, I wanted TF2 since release but I can't afford it and such, think of gamers who want a game but can't afford it. BTW Now it has almost been a year after F2P ,all the F2Ps are now trained and ready.
Free to plays suck and always will.
You suck **** and always will, Black Mesa, it's free to play and it suck? Yeah, logic dude
Black Mesa isn't the type of free to play game where you waste your money on ****** hats (unlike in tf2), *******.
Ohhh. Well I don't spend money for ****** hats that does no ****. And I still play Team Fortress 2. And I think that it's great! Why don't you **** off and shut up bitch.
No you shut up and **** off you stupid troll.
I ain't troll you fuckfag, you're the troll yourself, **** you and shut up, your profile pic is GAY

Adding content is garbage? ..Why?
Assuming you feel that adding different weapons makes the game unbalanced and too unpredictable or RPSy (kind of like MW2?), please note that a recurring theme in tf2 is "just messing around and having fun and laughs". In serious games (pugs or competitive matches), weapon choices are limited.
>>Then, the game got worse when VALVE introduced pickups. Because, then, the people who worked hard to get said achievement weapons don't have an edge to the person who installed the game 5 minutes ago and picked up some weapon within his first minute of playing.
People could get their achievement weapons by calling up a couple of friends and staging it in an empty server. Nobody had to work hard to get achievements.
I personally feel that there is no good reason why older players should have an edge over newer players. They already have an edge in skill, why make them more powerful?
