HD has a different file structure, so it's more a port than an install. The work isn't very hard from a technical standpoint, but there's a lot of tedious conversion to do.

Yeah, if someone has done if, it would REALLY help the rest of us if they were to do a guide or a video tutorial. I've been trying to get it working with the STEAM HD version and have had no luck. I mostly get texture errors and invisible units.

You can tell it is kinda working... but just isn't there.

What I did:
I took each of the ToME files and searched for the corresponding file in the HD directory and then overwrote them.

Again, it doesn't exactly work.

Frankly, I hope they're still working on another release. I'd love to see it!

1. Revert to 3.9 Steamcommunity.com

2. Install ToME to the HD directory. By default, this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age2HD

3. Download the Text Converter and run it on the same directory. Aok.heavengames.com

4. Copy the contents of key-value-modded-strings-utf8 generated by the Text Converter and add them to the end of en-language in Age2HD\Bin\en

5. Optionally, move the text files in Age2HD\History to Age2HD\History\en

Thanks for posting this. I suggest making this into a STEAM guide.

It did work.

One problem though, the game runs terribly and I cannot figure out how to make the game run smoothly. There is almost a 1-2 second delay before each movement animation.

Genie Converter is an updated version. Switch to the Language tab, set the directory, and hit convert. key-value-modded-strings-utf8 will be created in the Genie Converter folder.

The process I outlined does. Switching between ToME and AoF/AoAK will be quite tiresome though.

I have the original version of AOE II & the Conquerors (collector's edition) + the c patch + the user patch.

ToMe will launch but when I try to start a single player game it asks for:
"you must insert the Age of Epires II: The Conquerers Expansion CD to play single player game, then restart"

Won't work after severel reinstalls....without the userpatch nothing works.

When I launch ofter the AEO II icon (NOT conquerers) the music & text is LOTR but the graphic isn't....any suggestions?

you have to mount the image
first install age of kings(origin) and the conquerors with cd or image.
Use the mod with Age of Empires 2 v2.0a(age of kings) + v1.0c(the conquerors) + UserPatch (v1.4RC) + Mod (Tales of Middle Earth v0.6 BETA) to run it perfect.and then you start with the green helmet button :)

Furthermore color fix and windowed mode :)

Excellent game. Units are have amazing detail. I don't like the design of the Elven buildings but hey, that's just opinion. I haven't noticed any glaring glitches. **Just a few problems... After opening the game a few times, it stopped playing 'Lord of the Rings main theme' and replaced it with the standard medley. I suppose that if I reinstalled it, it would work just fine but I'm far too lazy. I noticed that Rohan, as an AI, will build the Hornburg rather than the standard castle for that type…
