Tales of a Forgotten Realm has never hid away when it concerns lore and history. Throughout Rise of a Legend and The Lowland General 1&2, players would be able to learn about the history and lore of the land through books and/or NPC's. However, none of these titles had a complete or huge history for Devron. Crowley's Magnificent Adventure changes that and you can learn about the names of Kings, their deeds and what they achieved. You will also learn about religion in Devron, wars, debates and debates and theories about The Dark Lords. My favorite lore character went by the name of "The Magnificent Bastard Prince" as he was exiled from Highland after being framed for murder. Being ruthless, angry and vengeful, The Magnificent Bastard Prince (real name, Elohan) vowed revenge. Here is his tale:
The Magnificent Bastard Prince:
The Magnificent Bastard Prince was a prince of Highland. He was born in 1454 DR. His real name was Elohan and he was meant to be heir to the second king of Highland who was King Panuel. However, he was framed for murder and exiled from Highland in 1470 DR. Angry and annoyed, Elohan vowed to find those who set him up so that he could expose them and destroy them.
Elohan had to begin from somewhere though and knew that he could not just march back into Highland without anyone not recognizing him. So he took up the life of a sword for hire and helped many Midland adventurers in their quests for glory and treasure.
Over the years, Elohan built up fame as a capable fighter who was ruthless. Going by the title of "The Magnificent Bastard Prince" Elohan was known throughout the whole of Midland. There were those who feared him and those who sought his help.
In 1482 DR, the Inquisitors of Naer Ron enlisted Elohan's help to hunt down powerful necromancers and Elohan brutally executed every last one of the necromancers.
After performing that deed, Elohan's statue in Midland grew and he became a minor lord.
Eventually, Elohan became a high lord who had a personal unit of troops and knights. With his newly gained powers, Elohan marched back into Highland in 1484 DR, killing all in his way. It took Elohan years but he was finally able to locate those that had framed him. He executed them by pulling their intestines out. Elohan was shortly killed afterwards by his own father - King Panuel - who was disgusted that his son had become a high Midland lord. Elohan's best knight - Sir Dorlan - took revenge by killing King Panuel straight away afterwards.
With Elohan and Panuel dead, Elohan's younger brother was left to inherit the throne but Elohan II - Elohan's son - slew Elohan's younger brother and took the throne for himself. Unbeknowest to the people of Highland at that time, Elohan II was half Midlandian. His mother was The Lady Teresa Reva of Midland who Elohan had married when he became a high Midland lord. When people had discovered that Elohan II was half Midlandian, they formed mobs and tried to kill Elohan II. Elohan II killed them all and ordered Dorlan (who Elohan II had made a Varoth) to have their corpses burned. To demonstrate that he hated the Midlanders as much as the Highlanders, he had some Midland prisoners eaten alive by some hungry dogs. From that day on, Highlanders accepted Elohan II because they saw that he hated Midlanders and they were afraid of him because of what he had done to the Highland rebels.
With Elohan dead. Elohan II became known as The Magnificent Bastard King because his feats were just as impressive as his father's feats. Wielding his father's sword and armor, Elohan II forged Highland into a greater nation than it was when Panuel ruled.
Midlanders often insult Highlanders by claiming that Highland has only got so far due to Elohan II as he was half Midlandian and that his greatness was due to his Midland heritage.

The Gedeliah Family:
The Gedeliah family is the most famous family in the whole of Devron. Many members of the Gedeliah family were often great heroes and mages. Magic was said to run in the blood of the Gedeliah family which would explain why so many were mages who were often very powerful at early ages.
Notable Gedeliahs include:
Enoch Gedeliah: A War chief - born in Highland in 1100 DR - who was a great warrior. Enoch grew up during a time when Devron was in chaos. There were constant skirmishes between different factions and the creatures on Devron were plenty in number. Dedicating himself to his god - Helm - Enoch roamed Devron dispatching every evil creature that he came across. The irony of Enoch is that he despised magic whereas other Gedeliahs - who became mages - relished in their natural born gifts. Gedeliahs are often credited to advancing magic whereas Enoch is credited to destroying magical artifacts because he believed them to be dangerous.
Demetra Gedeliah: Demetra Gedeliah - born in 1180 DR - was Enoch's third cousin. She was a battlemage employing use of her magical skills but also engaging enemies in melee with a two handed war hammer. She was born in The Lowlands. She is credited to establishing Durthur Fort for the ruling faction of The Lowlands. The fort is currently ruled by General Lucan (second name unknown) who is also known as "The Lowland General." Demetra defeated many dangers of The Lowland swamps and made them much safer and she eventually came to lead the ruling faction of The Lowlands. She was killed in 1200 DR by The Duke of The Hells that broke into Devron.
Jessica Gedeliah: Jessica Gedeliah was Demetra's half sister. She was born in Midland in 1182 DR. She is credited to defeating the Duke from The Hells that broke into the world in 1200 DR. She died in 1400 DR having lived unnaturally long due to her potent magic.
Edward Gedeliah: Edward Gedeliah is regarded as the most famous Gedeliah of all. It was he who banished Dravet - a powerful conquerer - from our world and saved Devron in the process. The victory was not without cost however as Edward died when sacrificing his energy to banish Dravet. It was said that some of his offensive magic was on par with Elminster's. Edward was born in 1570 DR and he died in 1601 DR. He was a direct descendant of Jessica Gedeliah.
Origins: No one knows exactly where the Gedeliahs came from. Some say that they are native to Devron while others say that devilish blood flows in their body and that the first Gedeliah was actually a Tiefling or Devil who came to Toril because he was sick of the hearrchy of the Nine Hells. It is claimed that this Devil was called after finding both love and redemption in a human woman, he produced a child with her and gave that child his new name: Gedeliah. Most historians dispute this though and claim that it's likely that the Gedeliahs are natives of Devron who are all descended from a very powerful mage or that they come from the island of Arvai, not so far from Devron.
Gedeliahs today: Many have reported that they are descended from the Gedeliah family. General Gosln of Midland claims that he's a direct descendant of Demetra Gedeliah but he has no evidence to back his claims. Likewise, other people who make such claims have no evidence either. It is believed by some that the Gedeliah family died out after Edward made his heroic sacrifice. Others claim that any mage who seems to have a natural ability to cast magic is descended from the Gedeliah family.
Dragon Studios note: General Lucan's second name is actually Gedeliah (as shown when you play The Lowland General 2) and he is a descendant of the Gedeliah family.
Nature of The Dark Lords:
Since the defeat of the last Dark Lord, many debates have been held across Devron between historians, philosophers, so-called prophets and mages. It is widely agreed that the Dark Lords of Devron were once mere children who came to inherit dark powers by some way or another. Growing in both hate and power, they came to be named Dark Lords. People in favor of this theory are known as Inheritists. Some theories included in the Inheritist belief include the theory that the children's fathers made pacts with devils or demons to gain the dark power that made them so strong. Others claim that they gained powers from The Void or even more sinister, unknown beings. Particularly, some say that an ancient being similar to a humanoid octopus was the patron to many of the earlier Dark Lords.
People who believe that the Dark Lords were powerful beings with their real nature being non-corporeal darkness are referred to as Manofidarknists. Their belief is that the Dark Lords came from the Void and took corporeal manifestations. They believe that the prime goal of a Dark Lord was to conquer the world with some being so chaotic that they sought to destroy it all together.
No evidence suggests that the Manofidarknists are right as no evidence has been found linking the Dark Lords to the Void. However, their incredible dark powers and sudden apperance into the world and events do elude to a dark origin. However Inheritists claim that for the Manofidarknist theory to be true, Dark Lords couldn't have physical bodies at all, as the Void is simply a dimension of nothingness, where dark minds and consciences roam the eternal emptiness. History has shown us that the Dark Lords did have physical bodies, however.
A third group exists who believe that Dark Lords are from The Abyss who are sent to the world to destroy it. However, such claims are largely dismissed as if Dark Lords truly were from the Abyss, they would likely be servants to Demon Lords, but it is not unheard of Dark Lords and Demon Lords clashing against the other over the control of certain dark powers.
