Survival 101 is a Half-life 2 mod that I've been working on for sometime now. The concept for the mod is that of survival/horror. It borrows elements from games such as Resident Evil and Bioshock. Major changes to the Half-Life 2 experience include: realistic weapon damage (no more emptying entire clips into enemies), scarcity of ammunition and health packs, and more of a focus on the horror aspect. The mod features its own story line which will hopefully span at least to the two hour mark.

Beta 0.9 is finally released. It averages out to about an hour of playtime and should provide some fun sequences and scares. Remember to leave feedback. This is 0.9 which means I'll most likely only be releasing one more version of it. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I haven't had any game testers this time around which is why this isn't 1.0. I'm counting on everyones feedback to make 1.0 as bug free as possible. I've gone through everyones suggestions and took advice and fixed all bugs and went back and revamped the first part of the game and changed a lot of the scenery and details. Thanks for all the support and hope you guys enjoy playing through whats taken me 300-400 hours of learning Source SDK and making the game.

Changes:

USP Clip size is now 8
USP damage increased, can now take down a Zombie with 2 headshots
More detailed textures in all maps included with 0.6.
More zombies in different places :)
Overall difficulty increased.
All the maps are completed

I think there should be only one headshot to die, that were the usual in most zombie movies, this is my opinion... ^^ otherwise nice progress :)

Mapping should be better, because now it just like feels like HL1 mod with high res textures on and some models. Also fps drop, allot of open and unused spaces, leaks, few other bugs are present.
And remember - lots of darkness doesn't make game look scarier, instead it's rather irritating.

The voice acting wasn't good or bad. In my opinion it lacks quality, cus it was rather hard to understand first time playing what was the guy saying.
The music wasn't too bad, but if I were mod dev, I would put in a creeper one, to make at least the vocal part of the game feel scarier.
Story line has the same idea as in bioshock, nothing too original.

All in all, the game is worth downloading only for those who have nothing better to do. And remember, everything I said is just my personal opinion.

Notes to dev team:

Nice try (for the first time?), but your mod really needs more hours of thinking and working... Good luck fixing those bugs :P

I only got to play the first two maps because I got stuck after (Spoiler) I killed the first 3 metrocops. This was after the radio transmission in the library. I went into the small room where the cops were at but there was no loading screen. If that was the end of the mod for now, you could have included a simple game_text entity to state something like "Part 1 completed, thanks for playing."

)))Overall this mod was worth playing, it had a couple neat ideas but the lighting kept getting darker and the mapping got repetative, making the mod really frustrating towards the end. I don't mind big indoor maps, but they need to be looking good when you play them. Also, I should note that the radio transm. in the library said something like "You better take cover!" and then I come to find out I only have to kill 3 scrawny metrocops? A better idea would be to have a big battle with zombies and metrocops, and have the metrocops launch red flares to brighten up the dark map. Little things like this make alot of headway when you are trying to convince players that you have made a quality mod.
)))I liked the idea that you were hiding from the swarm of zombies, but then the rooms got so huge and so dark, it became irritating.
)))Another neat thing was the radio chatter. "We're gonna make a homemade bomb." It was kinda fun finding those items and getting to blow open a door. Nice idea.
)))I liked hopping over the rooftops too.
)))It would be nice to see some different maps next time instead of the same areas, the same textures, hallways, etc. Maybe an outdoor map next time?

Overall nice work, thanks for giving me something fun to do.

Ok my Comment here it comes:
1. I love Zombies and in this Game there are lots of them and there is an Shotgun^^.
2. The part in the Bibloethekary is a litle bit too hard becausen there is no health pak an only 8 shot.
3. The Music is cool and the puzzles are not to hard (but i hd to reload the game every time because i crush the wood boxes)
4. The part before the Lift is a little bit to hard without more Shotgun amo or you give the charackter one granade a few moments before (in one of the dead Combine maybe)
5)))It would be nice to see some different maps next time instead of the same areas, the same textures, hallways, etc. Maybe an outdoor map next time?
Jeah somehow he is right you could make a map not in that building maybe one at a farm or at a lake where Zombies come out of the Fields.

All in all its a cool Zombieshoter and i would give it a 8,5.

PS: Does it probably give cars or something. Maybee a Homemade XD i like the part with the bomb i feel like Mc Gyver^^
