Strider MountainHalf-Life 2 mod | Released Sep 12, 2009AT 30,000 FEET... you are almost 6 miles (9.7 km's) above sea level. The human body is not made for these conditions. Temperatures can plummet to -60F (-51C), the brain is starved for oxygen and each step is a new experience in pure agony. It's difficult to breathe. It's difficult to think. It's difficult to move. And you still have to endure another 444 feet (0.14 km's) to get to the peak. So much for the good news. STORYLINE: SURVIVE the SUMMIT ...The rebels are losing the battle against the strider onslaught that keeps growing. To help turn the tide of war you need to destroy the source of the Striders. That source is at the summit of what the rebels call, StriderMountain. There is only one way to get into the mountain geography and it's extremely dangerous terrain. The danger proves to be too much and you are forced way off target. Now, you must fight your way through the Combine Mountain Base Camp because it's the only entry to the mountain. As Gordon Freeman, you must survive the summit and destroy the source of the Striders.

There were way too many times where something would bug up and I'd be stuck in a room. This mod is pedestrian.
Usually you just have to try every door/switch until script makes something to happen.
Absolutely magnificent, awesome in concept, truly staggering in execution.
The combat was hard and very satisfying but you have to know when to cut and run β end of Chapter 6 in particular where the authors have quite deliberately made it impossible to wipe out the Combine in that area β armies do this by leaving hardcore pockets of resistance behind so as to pursue the main objective β winning the war.
There is a depth this mod that many are missing.
Even the puzzles were good needing a little thought but not being frustratingly obscure.
Citizen 2 will find this hard to beat (but I hope it does).
I had but 2 minor hitches which were sorted after reloading and changing tactics.
I have been honoured to be allowed to play this and I am stunned and sorely disappointed at the detractors of this mod which is HL2 at itβs supreme best.
I would not have minded a lot more Striders but this was made up for (a bit) by 2 of the Striders being particularly aggressive and very very fast.
Superb and brilliant, for the hard SP FPS HL2 gamer who likes to think and find the right strategy to get it done, absolutely my kind of game.
I enjoyed it and it was awesome.Fuck the design n shit, the maps were good and i loved the battles too.
sorry that i couldn't reply much sooner but my videocard broke down 10 min. after release, what gave a huge amount of problems.
about SM, the weapons and the maps.
let me start with saying that i make maps the way i like to play them, and i like the bit old shool mapping, with some backtracking through finding keys and searching for the door for it. and about being lead through maps over excisting paths. its just what i like myself. and about qualily i can be really simply. i like to play myself large mappacks, with loads of maps that have a rather good quality. instead of playing only 3 maps, but who are made supurb and have no error or bug in it. my maps are always about quantity AND quality, in that order. they have to be ok, and plenty. i know there are many people around here that do like to play maps that couldn't be made better (as far as those excitst). but then always the last comment is; its just a bit short !
another comment is that SM looks and playes just like Coastline To Atmosphere, (CtoA, our last project), and although that is ment not as a compliment. i still do take it as one, even as a huge one. because ctoA is downloaded over 130.000 that we know of, and it gave me tons and tons of very positieve comments, even till this day.
so, when SM is the same, then i have succeeded in my task, couldn't be happier in fact.
now about the weapons, should you have taken the time to read the readme.txt of the crdits, then one should have seen that we did.
the reality is simply, what is liked by someone is hated by others. its as simply as that. simply said; its impossible to please everyone.
i am allready glad to know that most people do like it, and that there is a smaller group who doesn't, that is a shame, but can't be helped.
Have fun and i hope you like it,
leon
Hey man, sorry being negative on HL2.Net. I posted some tips might help you on same thread (you should see them).
It's a very thorough and it's obvious you put a lot of time into it. Appreciate the response.
It took my entire day to beat it. I'll write a short review, and post it on HL2.Net.
Very busy maps and a heap of non-sense backtracking involved. Sound-effects are all over the place, doors that looks like they don't open do and vice-versa. The mod is in the HL2 universe yet the weapons are not, difficulty is really outta wack (throwing health at someone isn't an answer). Here is a hint, if the only way people can work out where to go is because you have to put an electrical spark in there is something wrong... I can see the amount of work that has gone into it but you should have really had a few fresh sets of eyes on it before going gold as 90% of these things could have been avoided.
Seriously, like 9000 Antlions at one point.
