Strider Mountain Full Release
Sep 12, 2009 Full Version 28 commentsThe team is pleased to announce the final release of StriderMountain. We hope you enjoy the mod.
AT 30,000 FEET... you are almost 6 miles (9.7 km's) above sea level. The human body is not made for these conditions. Temperatures can plummet to -60F (-51C), the brain is starved for oxygen and each step is a new experience in pure agony. It's difficult to breathe. It's difficult to think. It's difficult to move. And you still have to endure another 444 feet (0.14 km's) to get to the peak. So much for the good news.
STORYLINE: SURVIVE the SUMMIT ...The rebels are losing the battle against the strider onslaught that keeps growing. To help turn the tide of war you need to destroy the source of the Striders. That source is at the summit of what the rebels call, StriderMountain. There is only one way to get into the mountain geography and it's extremely dangerous terrain. The danger proves to be too much and you are forced way off target. Now, you must fight your way through the Combine Mountain Base Camp because it's the only entry to the mountain. As Gordon Freeman, you must survive the summit and destroy the source of the Striders.

Good:
The cinematic approach is cool. Lots of times it's not really done that well, but the idea sets it apart from HL2, which I can appreciate.
Ambitious
Bad:
The map design is confusing, and in a lot of places, downright bad.
There's no sense of progression. In HL2 you move from environment to environment. The citadel looks very different from the coast, or Nova Prospekt, or City 17. In SM, it all looks basically the same. There are some exceptions, but for the most part, it's weird hallway after weird hallway.
Lots of unnecessary backtracking. Often I'd try a door, found it locked, then backtracked. But then when I couldn't backtrack I'd try the door again and it would be open or it would trigger something that would open it.
The updated weapons add nothing, only take away.
The Gordon model was interesting, but it was creepy that his face never moved.
In general, I wouldn't recommend this mod. It's too confusing, too hard, and too unfinished.
yeah the map design is sometimes really confusing this ruins the feeling which good. you always think there is someone behind you.
Not to be mean but, this mod is kinda cheezy :/ i got bored of it in 15 mins :(
I dunno, the custom weapons had me going all the way (even playing for more then two hours after downloading it, at 2:30 A.M.) but, it just didn't do it for me. i appreciate the detail, but it seemed rather....how do I put it? poor.....5/10.
what the hell happened to barney.
2009's longest and best mod period. An epic must play!!
I just made a really long review on this mod but then I found out I don't have permission to link it. Oh well.
If anybody is interested, you can check my profile for the review once it gets accepted.
hey just played and finished the mod ...and i thought ...it was AWESOME!! i was entertained from beginning to end and it was soo long too ...Brilliant work guys!!
Its alright, I rated it a 6.
- Maps are a bit dodgy in places - shadows look out of place etc
- Too many combine enemies as has been said before
- Guns dont feel as if they pack a big enough punch, should be more recoil and have louder sounds.
Good attempt tho :)
Leon 'Spy Maps' Brinkman needs a new graphics card.
Without a new one, us combat Combine slaughtering proper game players will not get any new of his unique style of 'Combat Centric' maps and mods,
This is not good!!
To help, Phillip Marlowe at PP has arranged a way for us FP-FPS battle hardened players to chip in with a few of our pennies (cents) to help out.
