Set in an alternative history universe in which the grand European empires of the early modern era never fell. With almost the entire planet dominated by these empires, Stormaktstiden takes place between the years 2017-2021, and focuses on the 'Second Great Northern War' between the Swedish and Russian Empires as well as their respective allies.
'After experiencing trench combat during the 1983 Dano-Swedish Border War, many troops of the Swedish Imperial Army complained that their standard issue rifle bayonets performed poorly in such close quarters conditions. In response, the infamous trench knife design was developed. The short length of the blade in comparison with older bayonets meant that quick and effective takedowns could be preformed in tight spaces such as in a trench or urban environment, and the guard doubled-up as a knuckle duster for increased melee combat options. As of 2017, a trench knife is issued to every soldier in the Swedish Imperial Army.'
