The Advanced Units Mod is a huge AddonMod
We just haven't replaced all ingame units and added a lot of new units, we also have change the gamefeeling a lot, so that now really epic battles can take place.

Update to the Current Version. Small Fixes New Damage Visual Effects Light Reballancing
Installation Please select the Main-Installation-File of your EAW-Installation to install the High-Poly-Shippack For Example: C:\Spiele\EAW\Gamedata...

I meant checking if the installation folders are right after EVERY install
I found that it was a good idea to manually check and eventually place the SAU3 folder in the right place because yes the different installations can get messy. And when i have done that i have had no problems. Another thing that is a good idea is to install things in this order:
1st Main SAU3.0 install
2nd 3.1 patch
3nd High polypack
4rd 3.2.5 patch
This way i have personally gotten rid of the smoking ships and the mod works fine.
also discovered a problem playing as the rebellion. after a while, the game crashes out, saying there was an exception. there is no logfile for it, even though the error message says there should be, and the exception file says that the game tried to access an unkown address. it lists stack commands, not sure what they are, but the repeat for at least 50 pages, they are all in hex code. they eventually cycle down to nothing, and thats the last one, so im guessing your ai for the empire is spamming a command that eventually crashes the game. the game ai also makes GC on the larger maps nearly unplayable, because it is moving each individual unit it has, 1 by 1, non staop, everywhere. if you get a sensor array built, check the space routes. they are constantly completely flooded with red fleet icons, if you ever happen to intercept 1, its usually just 1 unit, and they move back and forth all the time. add that to the fact that i cant seem to find any support at all in english, and it means im gonna go ahead and move on to a new mod. good basis here, keep goin
with witch Version of Sau did you Guy´s play ?
so i pointed all installers to the base eaw folder (C:/Program files/lucasarts/eaw). i click on the EAW ModLauncher shortcut and get a wonderful little spplication failed message every time. is this shortcut supposed to be for v3.2.5? or are the changes applied even using the shortcut that came with v3?

a)it needs to be in the gamedata\mods folder

c) yes. it should
d) not that i know of
if you install this game it needs to be here----- C://Program Files/Lucas Arts/ Star Wars Empire At War
hence it is the main directory-- you need to put it there, it should overwrite the gamedata folder, then once you are done look in gamedata folder and if you see mods/sau3 then you got it.
