We all know that the government sent in troops to clean up the mess that the incident created, and we all know that the government had prior knowledge of the Xen race. But... how did they find out? Who was the one responsible for finding the alien life forms?
It wasn't just one man, it was an organization. This organization is called Starlabs, short for Star Laboratories. This secret government funded project was created to search the stars for life. You are Carlos Freeman; A Special Research Associate. Meaning: You are the lucky person who gets to wear a special HEV suit and do all the dangerous work.
Today you're up early and heading to work as usual. You take the subway, walk through the streets and sneak into the alley, towards the secret Southern sewer entrance as usual. You slide your card through the machine. As you wait for your card to be authorised, you think for a moment about a test in Nevada that you've heard was scheduled for today. The card reader beeps, and the thought quickly leaves your mind. Nevada's at least a few thousand miles away, and you have work to do here. With a smile, you continue down the alley...

Though Starlabs has been cancelled now for a good two years, I'm happy to announce that the fourth chapter that I originally designed for the mod has now been included in the recently released (Reissues)!
So if you've always wanted to play a chunk of Starlabs or simply forgot to remove Starlabs from your game watched list, then I hope you'll enjoy the little treat that's been included in Reissues!
Regards,
SEThorian
Though I always thought I'd never give out this news (and have always claimed that Starlabs would be completed), now I know that I was wrong in thinking...
After the recent trouble with the website, summer has begun and my workpace has skyrocketed, mainly due to the fact that I'm now working nearly full-time...
Our main website (http://starlabs.quaint.info) and the corresponding email address (starlabs \AT/ quaint \DOT/ info) is currently down due to...
After quite some time, new media has been released concerning Starlabs. My apoligies for the long wait and the patience is rewarded with a media update...
THIS MOD IS DEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAADDDDD!!!!!
Okay. That was what I was wondering, because it would be a shame to let some awesome looking maps just sit dormant indefinately. Thank you for putting up with me for as long as you have.
I am publishing everything mapwise.. Meanwhile, this is rather getting on my nerves, as it appears to me that the HLR team is reckoning they've got the right to get my material.
And yes, some material, such as documentation, plot and voice acting, is kept back because I might still want to do something with my intellectual property in the future. So far, that still makes sense to me. Though if you require elaboration, feel free to ask. I might just be misinterpreting things so far.
you said you will publish a part of your work? that would be therefor closed source resp. a playable mini mod or what?
Hi SEThorian
I accept your decision not handing out your source code. but i'm a bit mixed up. you have announced the cancellation of this mod but on the other way you are keeping source code willing to continue working on it. just in an other tempo.
what now? canceling mod or going inactive for a while? ;)
it is not our sense to overtake a mod. we would finish it under your name. though in the credits would be written author and idea: your name and additional coding hlr or something, just for completing my news comment ^^
well i hope you see the opinion of Darth_Burton, he is btw with the HLR project too. we would prefer to see an idea to be fullfilled as i would disapear for some reasons.
Actually, I did state in the newspost that I was going to release quite a bit of material. And if I say I'm not handing out my (source) material to others then, no matter how polite people ask me, I won't hand it out. I'll work on the material that I *did* promise to release in my newspost, but I certainly won't be working faster or handing out source material when the desire of other people to play gets too big.
I just can't understand why someone would rather leave something unfinished on their harddrive (or even worse delete) than to let someone else do it. I could understand if it was like 10 or 20%, but dude! It's 80%! You could at least piece it together enough to release. We don't care if it doesn't flow properly! (Wake Up Ron Burgundy was pieced together from deleted scenes, and people liked it!) We'd rather have a buggy as hell mod than one that was never finished. Don't let us down in the 11th hour. Please.
This has been a public service announcement from all of us here at moddb.
I posted this in reply to your other request in the news post, but I'm not sure if you noticed it, hence I'm just reposting it here.. ;)

I will have to dissapoint you by saying that, like stated in the news post, I have no intention of handing out any Starlabs source material. I do appreciate the offer and am familair with Phillip's idea. So I'd like to thank you for the offer, but will refuse to use it. I'll keep an eye on the project. I'm interested to see some of the results in the future!
because i'm trying to get in contact with the author of this mod, willing to resurrect this mod resp. to finish this work over my project: half-life resurrection Planetphillip.com
kind regards
MaverikCH
This is mostly disappointing of course as the last thing that I could ever think of was this mod being cancelled. I really thought you could get through it and release it to the public.
But sometimes it’s just not working as you’ve hoped, I'm really sorry for both you and the team members. It really looked spectacular from the screenshots, easily one of the best-looking Half-Life modifications I've seen to date. It had style!
Of course I'm glad too that you might release all of the stuff that you and the team completed, so we can, even though the cancellation, still appreciate the mod on our computers.
Anyway, sad day indeed. I wish the best of luck for you guys in the future.
