"The central building of a Protoss colony is called a Nexus. The Nexus maintains a link to Aiur and can provide power to any buildings in close proximity. Floating Pylons are used to channel this psionic energy and extend the range of the energy web. By building a network of Pylons, the Protoss can expand their base as they grow.
All other structures can only be gated in within the influence range of a Pylon or Nexus. If something happens to their power (e.g., the Pylons are destroyed) they shut down until they can be reconnected to the web.
This requires a Protoss player to be organized about building extra Pylons, reinforcing his/her defenses with Shield Batteries (note: Shield Battery is the beta name for Photon Cannon), and maximizing land usage. We've noticed that programmers tend to like the Protoss. ; )"

This will probably make players to not choose the Protoss unless it gets balanced in a other way.
I'm aware of this. I'm trying to reproduce every aspect of the beta, though. At this point it's essentially another version of the Zerg creep, haha.
But, don't worry, the Protoss will have their good points too.

Thank you! It can feel a little restricting and clump up your base a bit, but it's pretty interesting too.
I liked this original idea better. Makes the Nexus a little bit more useful as apoosed to just being a resource structure. Terran CCs have Comsat Stations/Nuke Silos...Zerg Hatches produce Larva, contain a few upgrades, is the primary structure in all cases, and produces creep. With this, the Nexus becomes the MOST important Protoss Structure. If the Nexus dies, your entire base goes down.
I agree, I think it's pretty neat that way. It's one of my favourite beta aspects, although there are a lot of cool ones to choose from! In the final, the Nexus is kind of boring, yeah.
