StarCraft 1.99
Development canceled.
Sorry, we could not find a gfx artist who's able to create more StarCraft 2 units.
For that reason we had to cancel the development.
This mod will combine the classic StarCraft with the gameplay and already known features of StarCraft II.
The mod does not aim to become able to replace StarCraft II (heh... someone laughing there?). It's goal is to bring the atmosphere of StarCraft II into the known 2D universe of StarCraft.
StarCraft 1.99 will support the Terran and the Protoss Tech only. Zerg will not be a playable race in this mod because the Zerg will have to give some of their units and animations to the other races to make transformable units like the Terran Viking possible. Anyway, this is "only" a mod, so Zerg will come in StarCraft 2 ;)
This mod will be available in English language only.
Please have a look at the Help Wanted Requests, there will be manies of them for I am not too good in creating graphics. So I hope there will be some people supporting this.
Note:
Having a lack graphics, this mod is using other people's released graphics. Whoever whishes to have his or her work removed from this mod, please send me a pm or contact me via mail/website.

A big Media Update for StarCraft 1.99 has been released.
Images showing new models for the Terran Thor, Terran Banshee, Protoss Immortal and Terran Merc Haven are viewable in the image section of the mod's profile now. The next demo release (v.0.2) is planned for the next weeks as well.
It will be compatible with Blizzard's official patch 1.15.1. Terran Thor and Banshee still won't be available as buildable, but Protoss Immortal and Terran Merc Haven will.

Modding question:
Is it possible to use Arsenal (or any modding tool) to assign a unit to use a different unit's GRP animation set?
If the answer is yes, this mod will be able to include the zerg race (and the mod im creating will work correctly). You can replace the graphics of units not used in melee games, like Terran Civilian, Infested Kerrigan, and critters. You can then make heroes use those graphic sets. Then modify the techtree to build those modified heroes, and there you go! w00t!
If the answer is no, well, that sucks =/ Zerg will have to go...
The key to a great expansion mod is adding new units without removing existing ones. I havent seen any of those yet, which is a pity.
Instead of removing zerg, you can replace units not used in a melee game, like heroes. You can replace critters' graphics too. Theres not any known zerg yet anyways.
Good luck with this mod. If it comes out before SC2, I can use it as a preview. =D
Also, that phase cannon is interesting. Mind telling me how you did it?
Ok, just letting you know. :)
As far as I can see, StarCraft 1.99 will still differ a lot from the mod you mentioned. The idea of using SC2 units is, of course, the same. But the results will be very different. That's sure.
There is alreadt a mod like this...

Despite being a modmaster, modmaster50 has very many questions.
But he does raise a good point; why don't you just use un-used units and then try to emulate the morph for them? You could also just use the Edmund Duke as the viking, as you would probably run into problems with having to pay for the "morph" to and from land to air.
