Star Wars: The New Era was the first large Star Wars modification attempt made on Source Engine. It was produced by Invision Games, a group of over 60 modders and Star Wars fans that have evolved from the Movie Battles 2 community and a mod team working on "Star Wars: Source" before. Star Wars: The New Era was supposed to become a class-based multiplayer experience featuring objective-based scenarios. The project was abandoned in 2013 after all of the remaining team members dropped due to time constraints after starting to study or working in the industry. Initially, the latest state of the mod was planned to be released under Creative Commons license to allow the community to continue the work. Unfortunately, getting in contact with many former team members in order to open-source their work did not work out, so the decision was made not to release any assets without express permit by the respective authors.

It's been very silent about us in the past. Now it's time for a big media update!

Posted by on

Our targeted release date got blast away in the most epic way possible. One year of delays, there you go. But what has been the reason? The short answer: We tried to implement a rather fancy realtime weapon system and broke our fingers on the Source Engine. After months of tweaking and playtesting, we gave up on this idea and changed the entire weapon system again.
Here is the long answer for those of you who are interested in the technological obstacles.

That being said, our past year of development was full of obstacles. Gladly, our recent playtests have turned out positive and we can live with the new weapon system. Unfortunately, we are extremely short on coding resources and the little glitches that we want fixed take longer than any of us would wish.

On the bright side, this left us time to produce a quite large amount of content for the mod. Thus, we will distribute the first release with more maps than initially intended.
In this media update, we want to show you some of the new content we're working on (some of it is WIP, so don't be wondering if you see orange textures). To begin, level design is not just about brushwork and texturing. The best layout looks empty and dead without all those detailed props that the 3D artists provide. Here are two of the larger props: The Republic Cruiser and AAT (Federation tank).

And here it comes, our long-awaited map update!

Mygeeto (CTF)
This level features one of the enormous bridge constructions on Mygeeto, a planet that you could see in Episode 3, right during the Clone Wars. The map combines a futuristic look with damaged walkways and an atmosphere in which the ash rain never stops.

Dagobah (TDM)
A huge and difficult arena with its dense forest, foggy sky and dark caves. Ideal for surprise attacks.

Endor (TDM)
A nice contrast to most of the hightech scenarios of Star Wars. This map takes you to the beautiful nature of Endor. Special thanks to brisck1 for the contribution of the foliage models!

Mos Eisley (TDM)
Tatooine is one of the most popular scenarios from Star Wars. In this map, we'll take you on a tour through the center of Mos Eisley, including its space port and the famous cantina.

Your "real-time bullet" issue sounds to me like it was down to wonky prediction. Is Developer.valvesoftware.com familiar?

What I consider to be a true mod is when the developers manage to remove the hl2/source feel to it. (Total conversion) You guys, have done just that. Looks amazing!

It's an entirely different setting, this facilitates things a bit. In fact, almost all models and textures are custom work, there are barely any HL2 assets that we're using. They simply don't fit the scenario.

Awesome maps.in Smod in bullet time you could see the bullets. Maybe you could try to do that but make the blaster lasers faster or something that could solve the problem. Just a suggestion.Well i am going to play SW BF now=) SW FTW

Really nice work on this game so far guys, hope it wont just be a copy of Battlefront cause the only thing i hated was the FPS being unrealistic and the models being crap the FOV was horrible too i like FOV styles much like that of Killzones 2 FOV.

Good job guys keep this up great work.
