Report RSS Mandalorian Reveal and Faction Guide

As promised, here is an outline for the other faction joining the Interregnum in the Beta 1 update.

Posted by on

As I’m sure you’re all aware, this weekend is a special one to Star Wars fans. The Force Awakens represents a new hope for our favorite franchise and the first opportunity to see Star Wars on the big screen in many years.

In honor of this, and also as promised to the community by our team as a reward for Interregnum reaching the top 100 in the Mod of the Year contest, I am proud to reveal the other faction making its first appearance in our mod in the Alpha 3 release.

The Mandalorian Raiders.

As many of you may have suspected from the recent hints being dropped, the world of the great Interregnum will soon see the resurgence of the fearsome Mandalorians. The Raiders will completely replace the pirates in Interregnum, keeping the base mechanics but adding a level of immersion and detail to the universe. The Mandalorians will be a much more significant threat to the major factions than the forces of the Atzerri Cartel. As a result, especially in the early game, those frantic bidding wars to avoid a raid on owned territory or redirect it to a foe’s will be all the more intense.

Faction Overview

The Mandalorian Raiders represent a fringe sect of Mandalorian society. The Interregnum has fragmented the galaxy and worn down the larger powers, the Galactic Empire and the New Republic, as they struggle to counter the threat posed by extra-galactic invaders. In the chaos, Mandalore found itself in a curious position. Caught roughly between the territory of two Imperial warlords, external supervision on Mandalorian activity disappeared for the first time since the Imperial Occupation after the Clone Wars. Sensing opportunity, many Mandalorians quietly returned home, and before long, the foundries of MandalMotors and their subsidiary corporations began a production run unrivaled in recent memory.

The majority of Mandalorians accepted the leadership of Boba Fett, recently appointed as Mand'alor. The remainder, however, disagreed with the Fett’s longer term, more patient strategy. Accordingly, these Mandos acquired what weapons, vessels, and armor they could and began an independent, less focused, campaign.

Befitting the ad-hoc nature of Mandalorian culture, the Raiders employ an eclectic and unusual variety of vessels in their endeavors. In terms of vessels they produce themselves, the Mandalorians rely on a small lineup of craft produced by MandalMotors or Mandal Hypernautics, which tend to share characteristics such as reliability, heavy armor, and variety in armament. The staple vessels of the Mandalorian raiding fleet are Crusader-class Corvettes, designed to punch far above their weight class and tangle with much heavier vessels, and Protector-class gunships, an advanced variant designed for anti-strikecraft work. For truly difficult engagements, the Raiders may choose to deploy the Mandal Hypernautics designed Keldabe-class Battleship, one of the few privately produced vessels capable of tangling with an Imperial Star Destroyer.

Supporting the small line-up of home-built vessels is a collection composed of any combat-ready vessels readily available. Always a resourceful people, Mandalorian fleets often include vessels salvaged from the Clone Wars or adapted from civilian designs. Frequently seen are the Interceptor-IV frigate, a modification of the reliable Action VI Transport, and the Acclamator-I Cruiser, many of which were collected in the years after the Clone Wars.

The Acclamator-I, which primarily operates as a troop carrier, represents a commitment to a larger, significant strategic decision made by the Mandalorians. During a time in which the focus of planetary assault has shifted to orbital bombardment, the Mandalorians remain committed to the transportation and deployment of elite surface armies. True to form, Mandalorians are crack troops in ground combat, fearsome in their gleaming beskar’gam. Additionally, the Mandalorian Warrior culture is reflected by tactical choices in naval combat, which often include attempting to capture and repurpose opposing vessels.

Unit List

Capitalship (Battleship) – Keldabe-class Battleship

Named for Mandalore’s capital city, the Keldabe Battleship is a heavy, extraordinarily well armed, sizeable cruiser designed for large-scale naval engagements.

Capitalship (Carrier) – Venator-class Star Destroyer

With the unusually rapid retirement of the Venator class in the Imperial Navy, many Venator class vessels found their ways into third parties, and the Mandalorians were the most active collectors. In Mando fleets, they continue to act in a carrier and command role. Commonly deployed in support of Mandalorian Raiding parties are two homebrew fighter designs out of MandalMotors: the M3-A Scyk and the M12-L Kimogila. The Scyk functions as a versatile, light fighter comparable to a TIE series craft. Kimogilas, on the other hand, are the preferred choice for conducting bomber attacks on hard targets.

Frigate/Cruiser List

Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser – Heavy Cruiser

Crusader Class Corvette – Light Frigate

Interceptor IV Frigate – Long Range Frigate

Protector Class Gunship – Antifighter Frigate

Acclamator-I Cruiser – Siege Frigate

Firespray Class Patrol Ship – Corvette

Thank you all for your support during Mod of the Year. Please consider voting for us in the final round of voting! As a reminder, if Interregnum places in the top 5 of the ‘Upcoming Mods’ category, the Eclipse-Class Super Star Destroyer will be added to the mod, and taking first place would see us commit to adding a new, playable faction.

May the Force be with you as you go to see Episode VII this weekend.

Are the Raiders essentially going to be the Zann Consortium of INT? in terms of the ships they use.

It seems like it, yeah. Though, Zann was basically Mandalorian shipyards but under the control of an independent faction. These pirates will have access to more than simple Mandalorian designs, due to scavenging and piracy.

Simple Mandalorian Designs? Really by far their best units are the Mandalorian produced ships. The salvaged and stolen ships are more to quickly grow their fleet and to fill roles the Mandalorians aren't that crazy about in the first place.

You might see the Mandalorians absorbing some stuff from the Consortium to fill out their ship roster, since the Constortium doesn't really exist in Interregnum. I wouldn't say they play the same though. :p And if we borrow anything else from the Consortium not mentioned in this article, we will probably take some liberties and reimagine them a bit to make them a better fit for the Mandalorians.

They will only be the pirates for Beta 1 (when the New Republic is released). Beyond that... clouded, the future is.

You've been hinting at this for a while now, been wondering when you'd finally make it official.

What's happening in terms of planetary defenses? Will they use a range that better suits Mandalorian reliability, or a mixture of defense platforms already in the mod?

Quite a while now indeed. ;-)

I'm not sure I follow your question. Whose defenses? Mandalorian Defenses, the current factions defenses? Something else?

ERock72 did an amazing job on these Mandalorian ships! :-D

I'm afraid that the Venator is unlikely to get a paint job though, at least officially. This is because Sins has no efficient way to handle retexturing ships, it takes almost as much memory to add a retextured ship as it does to add a totally new one. So for performance reasons I'm reluctant to do custom paintjobs.

Of course, such a cosmetic change would not be hard to do, and we allow users to upload Addons now, so perhaps we'll a few pimped out ships show up there. :p

Hey, I really hope you add the Kandosii.
Starwars.wikia.com
It's one of my favorites from the universe and is a really hold mando design.
Here is another Mando designed ship.

You probably already knew about them, but in case you didn't. :]

Negative on the Kandosii. This mod is still set strictly after Episode VI, and it has been millennia since anyone saw one. As much as we might like to, we are not willing to go back in time and resurrect long destroyed ships if there is no evidence they survived to the Galactic Civil War era.

Is this why in the previous article/story the image of planet "mandalore" have their very own sphere of influence or ownership of space?

Yes, the Mandalorians are indeed becoming more relevant to Interregnum's lore because of this. That was one of the major hints that we would be doing something with them.

Faction redacted? Sounds... Bad.

Depending on how (Legends) canon you want to keep their forces, you could use old tech and slap the Mark 2 sticker on it or newer tech and call it a prototype. Feeling risky? There are plenty of other mods and friendly modders who would be more than willing to help you expand the roster.

As someone of an expert I would be more than willing to help you in any way I can.

Aren't they adding New Republic? Not sure why. Basically the same as Rebellion. Should do Mandalorians. More variety faster as opposed to basically the same thing.

We are adding the New Republic. In fact, the differences between the NR and the Alliance will be far more pronounced than the differences between the Empire and the Warlords. The NR will have a very different play-style and a more diverse ship roster.

We are also adding the Mandalorians, albeit as a replacement for the pirates.

Hi,

Thanks again for your amazing job, me and my friends are really enjoying your mod :-) Do you have an idea when you can release the new factions? Can't wait!

It's always difficult to predict when we're going to be finished and satisfied with a release. All three members of our team do this as a hobby, so the schedule is always erratic. Additionally, the update to Sins version 1.83 has set us back a bit for a number of reasons. So, the best estimate I can give you is that the new factions will be released when they're done :-P

Q: On Star Wars Interregnum Alpha 3.11 with SoaSER v1.83; when playing The Imperial Warlord faction I don't get to spawn the hero unit Admiral Thrawn, anybody else have that same problem?
Everything else works fine (and I do love this mod) but no matter what I try - when summoned Thrawn fails to show up :(

This is a bug in the 3.11 version. It broke a few hero units. This will be fixed in the next update, 3.12, which will be released when 1.83 is officially released on steam.

I'm not caught up on all things related to this mod, so forgive me if I say something incorrect out of ignorance.

If the Mandalorians become a playable faction, I would love to see the Veragitor Class Battleship make it onto their ship roster. I'm not certain that it is officially in the lore/canon/legends of the universe, so I don't know how you guys are on that (from what I understand, you are sticking to events after Ep. IV).

What I do know is that I am a Venator junkie; I love anything related to the Venator, from the Acclimator to the Venator to the Secutor, so I love to play with them at any chance I get.
