Expanding Fronts is a massive modification for Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds aimed to breathe life back into the classic LucasArts strategy game by adding various new units, features, and gameplay elements. Each of the 8 civilizations are being reworked and enhanced to make each feel more unique and authentic to the universe, while maintaining the classic Battlegrounds gameplay. In addition, the Scenario Editor is being filled with hundreds of new units, buildings, effects, triggers, and objects to allow campaign and scenario designers more freedom than ever before.

THANK YOU

It's been a long and difficult road, and we are immensely pleased to finally be able to put out a new public build. We thank everybody for sticking with us and being patient over the past few years. May the Force be with you all.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL

So, unbeknownst to us, we picked a very interesting day to release Expanding Fronts. As it just so happens, the planets have aligned, and our launch just so happens to coincide with Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds launching on Steam. Very unexpected, but very welcome and long overdue. Also of note is that SWGB, alongside a handful of other LucasArts classics is included in the latest Star Wars Humble Bundle. If you, or anyone you feel like conquering the galaxy with is missing it, there's no better time to grab it and EF! We'll see you on the Battlegrounds.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

As much progress as we've made, we are still looking for additional hands to help put Expanding Fronts together. As you might see in the beta, we've had to use numerous placeholder units to fill the Zann infantry roster as we are still lacking infantry modelers and animators. If you have experience in 2D art, 3D art/animation, Random Map/AI scripting, or general editing experience with the AoK/SWGB Genie engine, and would like to contribute to the Expanding Fronts project, feel free to contact the project head Gen_Rhys_Dallows. Alternatively, you can post a message in our project thread at SWGB.HeavenGames.com

Is there a way in the scenario builder to cause building to produce special units?

Most new units have some valid training data set. Using the Enable Unit effect on the Galactic Marine will replace the standard trooper, for instance. (Though the icon is invisible) These train locations can be checked with Advanced Genie Editor: Aok.heavengames.com

I have another idea. I have always disliked the heavy troopers in Galactic Battlegrounds, using weapons never seen in anything Star Wars. I was just thinking.... and basing this on the Republic and Empire

for the Republic, why not have the Tech 1 Trainees be unarmored Clone Troopers? Have them wear the blue uniform seen in AOTC. Could be a recolor of planetary soldiers seen in Vanilla, until a better model could be made.

Then Tech 2 could be Phase 1 Clone Troopers from AOTC, with the "blaster pistol" looking thing they are given in action figures

Tech 3 could have the Phase 2 Clone Troopers, and instead of that really strange weapon, give them what looks like the DC-15(I think, the long rifle)

Tech 3 would be the end of that line, but Tech 4 could provide the Repeater Trooper as a seperate unit(makes more sense to me, heavy weapons platform). If possible, maybe even model it as an actual team of two troopers with the E-Web

I'd assume making that for the Empire would work too, and be easier, since the Tech 3 trooper could just be shown with the long rifles seen in A New Hope

And furthermore, a way to implement the ARC Trooprs(and other special ops) could be to have them built at the fortress, or a special fortress like I mentioned in my last post. I dont know if there can be unit limits in the AOE2 engine, but I'd do that, so you'd make a special squad.

Great mod, and hope all work is going well :D

There are plenty of new post-episode II Republic units available in the Editor, but the existing Republic civ will likely not undergo any further roster changes as far as standard games go.

Hey, just got the mod! Great work :D I played a game on easy as the Confederacy versus the Republic and Zann Consortium, got my *** kicked :P Havent played in a very long time!

No crashes except when I was trying to install it, had some problems then. Using GoG 2.004 or something like that

Anyway, suggestions. I noticed that the Zann Consortium uses the trade federation workers, and ive seen the posts mentioning not having a modeller. May I suggest just recolouring the ZC workers? Maybe make them grey, or a Geonosian red sand color. I think them using the TC workers is great BTW, makes sense for a criminal organization to use existing tech :P

Also, and forgive me if im incorrect since I only played one skirmish and explored the new units in scenario, but it would be neat if some of the more interesting units were produced at a new building. Something like a Tech 4 superfortress, where you can call in the heavy ships like the Tarkin(and maybe a Victory Class too?), Acclimator, Corvette, so forth so on, and elite craft like the Royal Guard Interceptors

Really great mod, love it! Galactic Battlegrounds was actually one of my first computer games, and this is a great reason to get back to it :D
