Um, should I have a clean game or will it patch the previous version?

It should overwrite the previous, but there are some obsolete files in the old builds. If you want to save a few MB of space, you should do a clean install.

Also, the resolution doesn't work. It's too big and I can't reach the menu button or the bottom of the screen. (1920 x 1080)

You may have high DPI scaling enabled. Turn it off under the exe's compatibility settings.

I've tried installing on clean installs of both the Steam version and GOG, but I don't think the mod is working. It seems like I'm just running regular old Clone Campaigns. The executable and launcher and everything show up fine, but when I run the game, there's no new Star Wars Locales (Scarif, Felucia, etc), and messing with the screen resolution in the configurator doesn't seem to help. Any advice?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

YodaWarrior - - 4 comments

Nevermind, it is working! I didn't realize the resolution wouldn't affect the menus, and the new locales are listed in a separate section.

However, the resolution tool doesn't really work right. At 1920x1080 the command UI is shoved way down at the bottom of the screen and is unusable, so you can't actually play the game.

You have a high DPI enabled on windows explorer. Right click battlegrounds_x2.exe, go to the Compatibility tab, then check the box that says "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".

We haven't worked out how to add new SW Locales yet. For now, Scarif and such can be found under Custom map types.

For resolutions, try disabling scaling on high DPI settings (under the Compatibility of the exe Properties)

That's in the config menu for the launcher.

Also, disabling the display scaling worked, thank you!

Ensure that the installer is putting the files into the correct location; it defaults to the installation directory for the CD version.

Make sure all contents in the "GAME" folder included with the zip is in your "STAR WARS - Galactic Battlegrounds Saga/Game" folder. Its working for me with the Steam version.

For steam, this will be in your "Steam\steamapps\common\" folder.

For GOG, the default install directory is "C:\GOG Games\"

Assuming everything is installed correctly, I'm not sure what the issue could be. I'll inform our coding guy to investigate, but in the meantime, here are some things you can maybe try:

You can right-click the battlegrounds_x2.exe and go to the compatibility tab. Try running it as an administrator, or try a windows compatibility mode. While you're there, make sure to disable the display scaling if you use a high DPI (windows explorer magnification) setting or the game will not properly fit your screen when you do get it working.

Also, can you even get into the Configurator?

Hold down Shift as you launch the battlegrounds_x2.exe to launch a window with some settings you can mess around with and see if that gets anything to work.

Can you give more details as to what happens when you launch battlegrounds_x2.exe? Does it hang? Does it crash? Does it do nothing? Does it give you an error box? If so, can you state what the error says?

Does battlegrounds.exe or battlegrounds_x1.exe work for you?

Yeah x1 works for me just fine. i reinstalled the game a few times just to make sure i did everything properly, i found that the configurator had disappeared upon reinstalling the game with the mod niether the manuel or exe files had a configurator, then i tryed opening it up with the property setting adjusted as you told me to and it just simply doesnt want to open, i even reinstalled an older version of the mod to see it it would work for them, it did for the older versions, it even polished up some of the old units because i downloaded the older one over the new mods i reinstalled the game again and tried to get it to open the same way i did with the older version and it still didnt want to open.. it acts like its about to but it immediatly closes, nothing pops up not even an error box just closes down, regular clone campaigns works but not the mod idk what is going on.

Our coding guy suggests that you delete the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds: Expanding Fronts\Configurator

To do that, Open command Prompt and type this command:

reg delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds: Expanding Fronts\Configurator" /f

We're looking into the problems some users are reporting about the installer and widescreen features. Once we've determined the issue, we'll hopefully be able to put out a patch to address it.

For anyone that is having issues, please provide us with more details about what is happening.

If the battlegrounds_x2.exe "isn't working", it would be more helpful if we knew if you were getting an error box and what it says, or if it was crashing, or hanging, or doing nothing. It would also be helpful to know if the vanilla game (battlegrounds.exe) or if Clone Campaigns (battlegrounds_x1.exe) is at least working for you.

For widescreen, hold down the shift key when you launch battlegrounds_x2.exe and open the Configurator. Please keep in mind that the only current supported 16:9 widescreen resolution is 1920x1080p. 1280x1024p and 1400x1050p resolutions are also supported.

When i click the "battlegrounds_x2.exe" with the shift modifier only this appears. I.imgur.com , no widescreen options whatsoever.

When i launch the game without selecting any .DAT file this appears. I.imgur.com

The first time i run the configurator with the shift modifier the widescreen options appeared, but the error in the second image occurred when tried to launch, next time i clicked the .exe only the first set of options appeared, nothing more.

Reinstalled the game about three times by now, and restarted my PC too, nothing has changed.

Tried with an skirmish of different populations, 375, 500, 800; still had the error.

But tried a different game mode and the error disappeared.

For some reason this error, I.imgur.com , only showed when i was playing on the arena gamemode, hope this helps.

Edit: Meant deathmatch mode.

You should extract all the contents from the GAME folder in the zip file back into your SWGB directory's "Game" folder, not just the battlegrounds_x2.exe and run the EF_INSTALLER.exe first.

The registry must have been removed already then. Installing the Game files again and running the EF_Installer.exe still isn't working for you? Are you getting the error about the efpatch.dll when you launch battlegrounds_x2.exe or is nothing happening or what?

Also, oops. Sorry about the double reply. I thought my reply got erased, but it was just moved to the second page.

if i have "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" checked then try opening the game the screen goes black for a second then the screen zooms as though it is about to open, then it just suddenly closes, then two pop ups simultaneously appear, both titled "Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds: Expanding Fronts" But the first box says "Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds has stopped working" "Windows is collecting more information about the problem. This might take several minutes..."

Then the second box says "Do you want to send more information about the problem?" "Additional details about what went wrong can help Microsoft create a solution.
There is an arrow at the bottom of the second box that says view details so i clicked that and it said

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\WERE844.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\WEREC1B.tmp.appcompat.txt
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\WEREC5B.tmp.mdmp
Read our privacy statement online:
Go.microsoft.com

If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline:
C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt

then it has an option to send information or cancel.
Im beginning to worry that my laptop wont be able to play the mod :(

Also i dont have the configurator still in either the exe or manuel files i had to get it from the SWGB_EF1.0 file

"Please keep in mind that the only current supported 16:9 widescreen resolution is 1920x1080p."

Apparently, I was in error about the supported widescreen resolutions. The configurator lists supported resolutions by your video driver. You can also type a custom resolution into the box, if you wish to do so.

I currently have everything working fine except for the 1920x1080 running correctly. I can open the configurator and change the resolution and it loads fine but will either run in a tiny window if i select window mode at 1080 or run at the default resolution in full screen. No errors or anything it just isn't loading the correct resolution.

Update: After going further the actual in-game gameplay is in 1080 but not the starting menu's. could just be how it is...
