Hi. My name is herby. This is a slightly different approach to posting news but I wanted to get a little personal with the community. I've been with the group for about 5 months and have made some substantial progress. 5 new models and various texture enhancements and team colors for Klingons along with some older model cleanup. We now have two sizes of shipyards to accomodate the various sizes of ship classes.

A new Klingon Battle Cruiser is already in the building stage. Hot off the drawing board, it will be the new front line assault ship for the Klingon Empire.

TUNING:

One of the things that will not be appreciated or apparent at first glance is the fine tuning of the ships and weapons. All ships are tuned and balanced by a tuning script that predefine all ships and weapons. Weeks of preparation have gone into this formula driven approach to balancing. Countless hours have gone into developing, testing, and putting together formulas to do the job of tuning. All aspects of ship size and race differences have come together in a game that is completely void of human favoritism, error, or statistical intervention. This script tunes all models according to their size, and balances the entire game. The three factions are different, have different stats and the balance is tuned to these differences. For instance, Romulans have more shields, are more expensive, have less firepower and are slower. Klingon ships are faster, have less armour but their weapons are hotter. Federation ships are more or less neutral with a good balance of speed, shields, build time, and weapons. All in all, this makes for an interesting game style. Now you will need to pay attention and your tactics will vary according to what race you play.

RACES:

Romulans are tough. If you're facing off with them you better be on your toes and don't hesitate. Romulans build slow and cost more but once they get going it's hard to stop them. Their ships can take a lot of punishment and they seem to be invincible but if you're prepared for this you can prevail. If you procrastinate you will be annihilated. Research fast and build fast. Romulan ships are capable of cloaking. Stay on top of your sensor research and don't think that just because you don't see them that they're not there, because chances are, they see you but you don't see them.

Klingons are fast and hit hard but they can't take a punch. If you meet them on the field of battle you'd better be prepared to loose your ships quickly. Having reserve ships waiting to relieve your battle scarred fleet will be a major asset. Build fast and build many. Always keep your build queue full. You will need them. Some Klingon ships are cloak capable and they can be very subtle. Surprise is their strength and they will use it. They will strike like lightening and disappear just as fast. Klingon ships are designed to win or die. To the victor goes the honor, to the vanquished comes oblivion.

Federation motto is peace through strength but with a side order of diplomacy. They don't fight unless there's no other option. Their ships reflect this motto in that they are rather average. Not really great at any one thing but not lacking in anything either. The Federation believe in decentralized firepower and their ships have more weapons than any other race which translates into good coverage and fast response times. It's hard to surprise them. The best way to handle them in battle is to concentrate your firepower on one ship at a time and slowly reduce their efficiency by reducing their numbers. Don't think that by attacking their biggest ships first that this will reduce the damage concurred by them quicker. This is a fallacy. The smaller ships are more dangerous than you think.

Release Date:

Coming soon. We're getting very close to having something for everyone to play with. The list of To-dos is getting smaller.

Very nice updated! I'd love to see more of this stuff in the future. I really liked the descriptions of the different races, but one q, will there be borg, or any other races than Fed, Rom and Kling?

We are not planning other playable races because of the nature of planned future releases. However the Borg will be making an appearance in an Invasion (Siber's Survival) game type. Theoratically we could even have different "invasions", like a Dominion Invasion too, it all depends on the amount of work involved :P
