Star Trek: Armada 3 is a mod for sins of a solar empire: rebellion. It is the spiritual successor to Armada 2. The first stage will contain the federation and klingon factions, soon after the romulans and borg will follow.

How do you keep the game under 2 gigs whilst using such high end models and textures? Especially with the large number of ships on screen.

Well for one the textures aren't as high res as they seem they're just well optimized :)

I can't beleive this hasn't come up before. What will you be using for the Flagship gamemode? Some random cap, or an uber Sovereign with the uasual Enterprise registry?

I was never a big fan of Armada. However, So far your project is looking really good. I really like the backgrounds you are using. Best of luck to you.

Just some advise. We try to stray from too high of resolution models (especially the textures) in SoA 2, because of the 2 gig issue in Sins. As a rule of thumb we try to match, or do better than the vanilla ship/structure we are replacing. Just saying, because the ships you are using seem pretty high poly, and high res. Poly counts are not that big of deal unless you have hundreds of units on the map at once. Textures are the biggest resource hogs in Sins. You can easily go over the 2 gig limit if you are not careful. Take a look at TSOP, and ether incorporate it, or use it as a guide to give you more memory room to play with :)

Polycount is no higher than stock sins and texture res rarely goes over 512x512 so far i havent run into the 2 gb limit, hope i wont anytime soon and yeah TSOP is a very good helper :)

Hey, I played SOA 2 not all to long ago.

One thing I really love in SOA 2, is the First Contact theme when starting out as the Federation and sending out the Constitutions.

I wonder how different the style of play will be with the limitations of SinS.

Since this is a recreation of Armada 2, I can't help but hope to see the Cardassians in here!
