We don't need no stinking shields!

Shields are a feeble organic concept!

With that amount of hull, shields was just OTT... that damn cube still strikes fear when it enters my Federation space...so much so I've grown a phobia to ice-cubes...

the borg do have deflector shields...so i'm kinda at a loss here as to why they've been removed from these borg.

the borg had ablative hull plating and multi-regenerative shields that constantly remodulated so removing the shields is a strange thing to do

The idea is that shields and armor on Borg vessels are almost counted as one and the same. If you watch First Contact and Voyager, you notice that attacks against Borg vessels seem to be absorbed by the hull itself, or at the most -slightly- in front of the hull. In this way, Borg defenses can almost be thought of as "shielded plating". This doesn't mean that the retooled Borg are going to be weak, they will still have very high armor resistance and regen rates, but this new system lends itself better to on-screen performance of Borg defenses, while also differentiating them from other races.

That's very true, think of the tactical cube. It has more armour plating hence it's the hull itself which is the defence, and it has never been stated that the borg have deflector shields like the other races, on screen it doesn't look that way either

so it's basically plating with a shield current projected around and within it?

Well there is a certain unknown factor to it. Obviously it's more advanced than standard defence systems, an extremely resistant, dense, regenerative hull seems to fit what we know or what starfleet would know.

how will you solve the thing with adaptation then? using the inbuilt combat/time increasing shield mitigation, was a very easy way to achieve that function.. they are after all based on assimilation and adaptation

It's more like...represented better.

If you watch much of voyager and also first contact the borg shields are only ever shown as being very close to the hull almost a part of it and some episodes there were no shield impacts, they preferred their hulls which were vastly superior to take the brunt of the force while they used their power matrixes to power their neural adaption to technology and regeneration nodes, much in the way of canon it seemed more realistic to me to have the borg represented by Hull Health rather than by Shields, of course the Borg were good in 1.0 but they were very good with their smaller ships we've spent many hours teasing and retesting the borg to bring them closer both to the look and feel of first contact and also the look and feel of what it may be like to fight them without the bag of tricks that ships like the nebula provide.

all in all stay tuned for more because cruisers won't feel overpowered as before for borg en masse although still generally better than other races, and Borg cap ships won't have the identifiable weaknesses of before making the cube as scary as it was intended to be!

I'm guessing that with out shields they'll have a high hull regen or 70-80 armor or something.

Correct. Not quite that high, but noticeably higher than the other races.

Also note that those stats up above are only at level 1 lolz, and most likely research not all the way either.

Still can't say which cube I like more texture wise. I would appreciate comparison screen. I think the green in the last version was little more intense and darker a thing I actually liked. Naturally both texture schemes are fantastic.

We've got plot armor. Adding plot weapons would just be unfair!

Voyager should have an ability called "Plot Armor" which grants 100% defense against the Borg.

Since it already does have "plot armor" (i.e. Ablative Generators), we'd have to make it a passive, so that it ensures that the crew will make it to Season 7.
