Star Trek: Armada III begins with the first stirrings of the Dominion War and allows players to take command of five unique factions, the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union/Dominion Alliance, and the Borg Collective. Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no one has gone before.
"Matters more urgent caused our absence. Now, witness the result. Outposts destroyed, expansion of the Federation everywhere. Yes, we have indeed been negligent. But no more."
- Commander Tebok, declaring an end to the Empire's self-imposed isolation
2,000 years ago on the planet Vulcan, those who marched beneath the raptor's wings staged a savage and bloody war against the followers of the philosophies of Surak. Culminating in the use of atomic weapons that devastated the planet and drove the Vulcan people to the brink of extinction, the militants later left Vulcan to pursue their own destiny. After a long and arduous journey of many years, these violent exiles settled the twin worlds of Romulus and Remus, founding the Romulan Star Empire.
The Romulan Empire is a vast and powerful but enigmatic force. Located primarily in the Beta Quadrant, it is an empire of shadows and secrets, most of which has never been seen by outsiders. The Romulans are famed for their secrecy and xenophobic tendencies, and have been known to enter into states of prolonged isolation for decades at a time, disconnecting from the affairs of the rest of the galaxy and watching from the darkness in silence.
Though aggressive and passionate by nature, the Romulans rarely attack first. Instead, they opt to test the resolve of their enemies, provoking and manipulating the other powers into revealing their strengths and weaknesses. The Romulans are among the most technologically advanced races in the known galaxy, ensuring that the strength of the Empire is almost unmatched even by the other great powers. Equipped with powerful and often exotic weaponry, the Imperial Navy's fleet of warbirds allow the Romulans to bring massive force to bear against their enemies. Even then, the calculating Romulans reveal themselves only when they have an advantage.
By the time the Romulan Star Empire strikes, victory is already theirs. The Romulans' enemies are simply the last to realise it.
Welp there goes unity one...
