Star Trek: Armada III begins with the first stirrings of the Dominion War and allows players to take command of five unique factions, the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union/Dominion Alliance, and the Borg Collective. Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no one has gone before.
Borg vessel designation: Tactical Sphere. The Borg Tactical Sphere is deployed to engage, subdue and assimilate resistant species, and is most often assigned to lower priority targets where the greater presence of a Cube is not required. Specially equipped to capture fleeing vessels, the Tactical Sphere is a lighter, more efficient and more versatile vessel than the gargantuan Tactical Cube, which specialises only in destruction. In addition to combat, the Tactical Sphere is suitable for pursuit and assimilation of resistant species and their technology.
The large, circular hatch that features prominently to the vessel's 'front' is wide enough to accommodate many light to medium vessels unlucky enough to cross paths with the Borg, and its cavernous hold can imprison many vessels at once as they and their crews are systematically analysed and assimilated into the Collective. In combat the Tactical Sphere uses a combination of Borg cutting beams, disruptors and gravimetric torpedoes, and its hull can generate feedback pulses when absorbing enemy fire, sending destructive energy back up enemy particle beams to damage the attacking vessel. These features make the Tactical Sphere a lethal and effective asset to the Collective.
