Star Trek: Armada III begins with the first stirrings of the Dominion War and allows players to take command of five unique factions, the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union/Dominion Alliance, and the Borg Collective. Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no one has gone before.
A non-aligned species living beyond the Federation's borders, the Minosians were a people famed for the design, manufacture and especially the sale of weapons technology. Consummate salesmen and careful to always remain neutral, the Minosians sold arms to many species across many wars, often trading with both sides. For centuries, those looking for an advantage in some bloody struggle came to the markets of Minos, the so-called 'Arsenal of Freedom'.
The Echo Papa 607 total warfare system was the latest and greatest achievement of Minosian weapons technology. Deploying advanced unmanned drones, the EP607 series was equipped with an adaptive learning system allowing it to learn, adapt to and eventually predict an enemy's tactics. A drone would be dispatched to engage the enemy and probe their abilities, while the EP607 control system analysed all information gathered in great detail. After the drone's destruction, a second, improved drone would be deployed, and then another, and so on, until the 607 became unstoppable. Several of these units were sold until a demonstration for a client on Minos went awry, unleashing the system fully on the Minosians. For all the firepower at their disposal, the Minosians were unable to stop the 607 system and were eradicated by their creation, and Minos fell silent.
Minos was forgotten for many years until the USS Drake, on a routine mission, arrived at Minos in 2364 to find most traces of civilisation gone and the ruins overrun by the Minosian jungle. Unfortunately, the EP607 was still active and engaged the Drake in orbit. Despite a valiant struggle, the Drake was overwhelmed and destroyed. It was thanks to the efforts of the crew of the USS Enterprise, which arrived later in search of the Drake, that the EP607 was finally stopped.
Records indicate that several units of the Echo Papa 607 were sold before the destruction of Minos. Starfleet units encountering this weapon system in the future are advised to fall back.
This thing was pretty impressive. It had Borg level adaptability. You don't defeat a Echo Papa, you give it learning experience. I wonder how this adaptability mechanic works ingame.
Buy one now at 20% off!
Unit slightly used. On Minos.
"Yes! Yes! you made a sale!!!" Now shut it off!!!
I wonder what the program did, when it realized no sale was actually taking place after the Enterprise left.
Started sending irate bill notices threatening legal action to the Federation...
"Peace through superior firepower."
Too perfect... You poor fools - your own random event destroyed you!
Gotta love this episode.
A gem of Season 1. :D
How do I beat this thing? It spawned at a Son'a planet, murdered all the Son'a, and now is slaughtering my Warbirds. I almost kill one, and 2 more spawn while the damaged one cloaks.
Is that planet just officially uncapturable now?! Is it just going to be there forever?!
