Still VERY early on to be answering questions about specific ships, etc., but yes, the Constitution is finally set to make its appearance as a top tier heavy hitter. :)

I won't reveal anything unless the devs are willing to talk about it themselves (it's their project), but I can tell you that Max is VERY excited about this idea. ;)

Sweet, a tos mod! massive potential with that. Start out with pre connie ships, end up rocking proxima and excelsior battleships at end game.

Axanar is early TOS though, and those two are TMP ships. :x
Heck, the whole story of Axanar revolves around the arms race between Klingons and Federation to build their respective new heavy cruisers the D7 and the Consitution-class.

So we can expect those two to be the pinnacle of technology in the mod.
I think to remember there being a TOS Dreadnought though, but that was late TOS or fanon... not sure anymore.

> TOS Dreadnought

The Star Federation class. I, personally, happen to be a fan of the class. But it will be up to consensus whether we have it or not. Might be a little too late in TOS for the Axanar era, though, we might be able to explain it away somehow. We'll see.

Well, in CTA dreadnoughts are typically enormous, advanced mechanisms of death. My suggestion for ASO would be to try to reflect the less advanced time period by having the 'dreadnought' role fall to capital sized vessels. The Federation class might be passable in that it's closely related to the Constitution class, except bulkier and more powerful. It's true that t might be a tad late for the mod's intended timeline but it depends on how strict you want to be in that regard.

The Federation-class dreadnought first appeared in Franz Joseph's "Star Fleet Technical Manual", along with the Hermes-, the Saladin- and the Ptolemy-class. The latter appears in the form of the USS Masada in "Star Trek: 25th Anniversary".

That early fed klingon war in the axanar era would be a good staring place for early game, but I doubt they can do a mod half of armada 3's caliber restricted just to that. Not when all you got is crappy JJ trek designs, leading up to the connie. Plus early tos and late tos are very fleshed out by comparison, and thats what any tos fan will want to play most.

From a practical standpoint, ST: legacy has a whole bunch of ready to use ship models from tos era, armada 3 ships are almost all overhauled assets from that game, or kitbashes of them, only recently have some of those started getting replaced. So, another mod drawing on all those assets is par for the course, and what I'd like to see, I might add.

The tech behind the pure cardi/dominion alliance upgrade tree path could be used to age up essentially, from axanar ara, to tos, to tmp. Or it could be done on a per ship class basis, even more extensively then it was used in armada 3. Like, every ship would have 1 or 2 upgrades/replacements.

On this note, I was looking at the website for Axanar and saw a ship with twin engineering hulls and a 'rollbar' connecting the nacelles suspended above them off of the saucer hull.. though the saucer does look like a half-saucer from behind, the fact it has twin engineering is quite surprising and implies a lot more power and, well, bulk.

It's certainly no ENT-era Yorktown-class, but it sort of makes me think of it, as well.

It is. Axanar takes place in 2245, about 20 years before the start of the Original Series (not including The Cage, of course). According to lore in the Prelude to Axanar, ship aesthetics during this era were more similar to what they were in TOS, although there are some small smatterings of ENT era styling.

We have already brainstormed a few ship ideas already for some of the factions, so be rest assured there will be some cool new content for this era.

though some of the axanar ships are similar in design to the new star trek films (I personally hate when people call it JJ as if he somehow did every role in making the film including 3D design, Srsly! Ignorant of people as hes a figurehead like most directors) some of the canon technology established would be accurate we take mainly from axanar though and previous timelines from main trek TOS etc

Aesthetically the Abrams films' Starfleet ships were quite lovely. The Narada and Vengeance, however, went over the top +10. And the Klingon ships looked like something a Xenomorph would fly around in.

Yeah, that XI D7 looks like it could have came from Enterprise.

Also it's funny, that Into Darkness BOP keeps the basic layout, wings, wing cannons, torpedo launcher on the nose. But then completely butchered the rest
