S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Way of the Wolf

Final Status Update

It is my sad duty to inform you, our loyal and dedicated supporters/fans, that development on STALKER: Way of the Wolf is hereby postponed indefinitely.

Due to the inability of our modeler, Joshy, to produce and modify content for the mod thanks to the badly-written and now completely unstable X-Ray Engine modeling plugins, we are unable to continue work on making the mod we the team, and you the people, want. Without modifying existing, and creating new level geometry, the mod would be a hollow shell of what it deserves to be. Because of this, we have decided to discontinue work on the mod.

I know this will come as a shock and a deep disappointment to everyone. Believe me when I say that this is not what we wanted to happen. So much work has been put into the mod so far and it's truly heartbreaking to have to abandon what has become our baby. However disappointed you are, trust that we feel ten times worse, for the disappointment we've caused you, and ourselves.

All is not necessarily lost however - developing Way of the Wolf has been exceedingly educational for me especially, in the use of the SDK/Level Editor and in general modding knowledge. I'm happy to announce that the team will be moving our attentions to a project close to my heart - the creation of Call of Pripyat: Redux v2.0.

Redux v2.0 is going to be bigger and better than ever before. I won't go into specifics in this news post (check out the Redux ModDB Page) but suffice it to say that everything you wanted v1.0 to be will make the cut for v2.0 (stashes + upgrades especially) plus a hell of a lot more. We ask that you stick around and support us in this endeavour as much as you have for WotW.

Once again, we apologize, and thank you for your never-ending support and dedication to the mod. You guys are really amazing.

- Beacon and the WotW Dev Team

Is it (technically) possible to add 3d scopes to this mod? So instead of just lowering the FOV/enlarging the entire screen, only the scope would actually enhance your vision.

They've done it in INSURGENCY: Modern Infantry Combat, go check out some screenshots and videos.

A feature like this would really be an improvement to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.!

As fluffy said, zoom is unfortunately handled in STALKER by zooming the entire screen... I have no idea how it could be done either... :/

I doubt the Source engine and the Stalker engine look alike, but you could try asking for help. Not trying to push you though, it's your mod after all, but I'm sure people would like it. I for one would!

The stalker engine should be capable of doing it, right?

Looking through the sparse engine documentation there... Nope, nothing.
Then there is always hacking the engine to support that, oh, wait, that's technically illegal.
I don't think GSC cares though. There are plently of Russian mods with hacked engines, and even Lost Alpha too. GSC doesn't seem to mind them.

EDIT:
Lol, pushed the original post off the front comments page. We are EPIC!!

You mean this? Like you will see surroundings around a scope? It was already used in some modpacks for Stalker, so its possible...

Yes that's what I am talking about! What mod included the 3d scopes? I'm wondering what Beacon and the rest of the team thinks about it.

Are you sure that PSO-1 is actually zooming in? Looks to me like the whole screen is just enlarged. It's nothing like the Insurgency screenshot you posted.

In Stalker zooming in with a scope enlarges the whole screen. Its why GSC put the black around the scope - so you couldn't see the rest of the environment zooming in as well.

I understand, but don't you agree that 3d scopes would be a nice addition to this mod/stalker?

I think the amount of time needed to make that happen far outweighs the benefit. Ask GSC to implement it for STALKER 2, Beacon has many more places to focus his attention that will pay greater dividends.

I had seen it first at Datastor Modpack, but I think he took it out from some minimod...

Rostok will be enabled in the mod. I mean can you go there ?

Yes, Rostok will be accessible :)

As an idea, you could release the mod with all of the base levels from the previous games, then as a major future update you could add some of the original build levels to the mod.

You should try Lost Alpha, it will contain all levels from previous builds and release date is sooner then Way of the Wolf...

Now that you opened it, will you include locations from old builds? Like Dead city or generators?
