Final Status Update




It is my sad duty to inform you, our loyal and dedicated supporters/fans, that development on STALKER: Way of the Wolf is hereby postponed indefinitely.

Due to the inability of our modeler, Joshy, to produce and modify content for the mod thanks to the badly-written and now completely unstable X-Ray Engine modeling plugins, we are unable to continue work on making the mod we the team, and you the people, want. Without modifying existing, and creating new level geometry, the mod would be a hollow shell of what it deserves to be. Because of this, we have decided to discontinue work on the mod.

I know this will come as a shock and a deep disappointment to everyone. Believe me when I say that this is not what we wanted to happen. So much work has been put into the mod so far and it's truly heartbreaking to have to abandon what has become our baby. However disappointed you are, trust that we feel ten times worse, for the disappointment we've caused you, and ourselves.


All is not necessarily lost however - developing Way of the Wolf has been exceedingly educational for me especially, in the use of the SDK/Level Editor and in general modding knowledge. I'm happy to announce that the team will be moving our attentions to a project close to my heart - the creation of Call of Pripyat: Redux v2.0.

Redux v2.0 is going to be bigger and better than ever before. I won't go into specifics in this news post (check out the Redux ModDB Page) but suffice it to say that everything you wanted v1.0 to be will make the cut for v2.0 (stashes + upgrades especially) plus a hell of a lot more. We ask that you stick around and support us in this endeavour as much as you have for WotW.

Once again, we apologize, and thank you for your never-ending support and dedication to the mod. You guys are really amazing.

There is a difference between in-activity of a member of the dev team, and their inability to do their required task due to poor tools.
The instability of X-ray modeling plugins, as well the fact they don't always work means that sometimes doing something is downright difficult. I've had the same problem with the plugins myself, so I know the frustration.
The plugins are all fan made, the only problem is, no-one can seem to find the source code and patch up the bugs in it, or update them. If the source code was available, or even the structure of the xray object meshes, then the community might be able to get some working plugins together.

You sure Valve isn't tied into this engine's structural design somehow ?

Damned shame really. You will have the valuable experience and some assets anyhow. All the best on Redux v.2

its all available, even gsc released official plugins in cop sdk, yes, they can only export models to xray object type, but if you make new content, then its pretty useful. As for the fanmade plugs, they also work fine, just need to choose the most stable one, and src was also posted to those plugins, yes, on russian forums, but all is available on stalkerin.gameru.net site.

Beac, drop in our irc chan someday, and we should discuss about this, it cant be a reason to stop your work :)

I feel sorry for you guy's. Working so hard on something only to find out it can't be done. I've been there too (not with modding), and I completely believe that you guy's are feeling MUCH worse than us.
At least you haven't given up, good luck on all your future projects! I'll be tracking for sure.

Maybe you can use your work about WotW for Redux v2. For example, you can use your new faction ISG, no?

And about map? Have you one or two release map, or zero? If you have only one, please, add it in your Redux v2!

Looks like this is a pretext. Tried to contact them due to the plugin problem but judging from them not giving any answer it's not the actual problem but a pretext. A pity as I had been looking forward to this modification.

Got now word from the makers. It's though clear now they lost interest. There is no will to try to fix the problem so it is safe to say this project is dead. You can un-track this one here. Nothing to see anymore, move on. R.I.P. WotW

A pity, one of the most daring mods has officially declared "dead"
That's now a fact.
A sad fact which has been for sure a heavy weight on the shoulders of you and your team Beacon,and when you wrote this you surely were sad, like the community is now sad for the death of your great mod.
