The envisionment of TK is to bring you what was promised by GSC for STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, instead of the gutted retail release we were left with. TK aims to cover every aspect imaginable from gameplay intended to genuinely scare the player, to graphics for the absolute best visual experience, cut mutants, absolute realism, optimisations, stability, and a complete game mechanics overhaul, all without breaking the story. The idea is to present the player with a complete retail experience for the purist that liked SoC but wished it was far more fleshed out. In no way what so ever does TK try to be like old beta or alpha builds of SoC, TK aims to enhance everything SoC already has - nothing more, nothing less.

Heres some more WIP for the rewriting of the story going on.

Posted by on

Something I wrote for the story this time, very much still WIP and even I don't know where it will be used but figured I would post it for any possible feedback. You are all in for a little treat this time as I'll add the whole WIP story not just a snippet.

Ghost, Strelok, I leave this audio recording in hopes it aids you if you ever find your way here and I don't make it.

I found a extremely overgrown path in the forest so decided to see where it lead, its no wonder it looks like nobody has ever walked this path there were barely any indications its a path at all. I saw the beginnings of a emission in the sky after following the path for several hours, followed by that distinct emission rumble, I started running, blinded by emission flashes, hoping to find shelter - a cave, anything. I tripped, I picked myself up, leaving half my dropped equipment behind so I could run that bit faster. Just as I thought this was how I was going to die, caught out by a emission, I came across some kind of overgrown...facility? Barely visible with the forest overgrowing it and even harder to see with emission flashes blinding me whenever I tried to keep my eyes open to see where I was running.

I managed to fumble for a door half blinded from the emission flashes and pry it open. No sooner had I got the door open, fell inside and closed the door behind me I could hear the emission kick in to full gear - it had to be the most violent emission I've ever heard. I got lucky. I turned my torch on, it looks like some sort of.. medical facility? The equipment I found looks strange, nothing like what we have seen in Limansk hospital. I decided to look around this place, figured maybe I could find some things to use as a support for my ankle, I think I fractured it when I tripped. Thursday 12th, 5:13pm.

Thursday 12th, 11pm. I looked around this place, didn't manage to find anything for my ankle. Whatever this place is - or was, its no hospital. The outside of this place would seem to mask a substantial underground facility, its huge. I managed to pick the locks on some of the doors, found some twisted kind of observation rooms behind some of these doors looking down in to rooms which look like they are on a floor below me. The equipment in them.. I don't know what to make of it, they look terrifying I don't even know how to describe them. A few other doors I managed to get open looked like they were just file storage, I sifted through some of the papers, from whats still legible I can tell you some sort of experiments were going on here, on humans. Didn't find any details on the experiments, just basic subject information with codes - I assume representing whatever experiment the subject was part of. The final door I got open is some sort of security room, I'm standing in it now trying to see if I can power anything back up. Theres 2 corpses in here, very old, one looks like security staff, the other... a researcher or doctor. Theres old dried blood on the floor, control panel.. but no obvious signs of trauma to the corpses. Strange.

Friday 13th, 3am. I managed to get some power back on, no lights, but some electronic locks and computers powered up. Emission finally sounded like it was over after I did that so I headed back to the door - its stuck. Great. Wait.. what was that? A noise? Sounded... echo-ey. Better check it out.

Friday 13th, 3:44am. I looked in to the source of that noise, I found a elevator. When I pushed the button to call it a noise that sounded similar to what I heard was made... did somebody use the elevator? No.. not somebody, something. This place... its changed since I got some of the power back on, almost like its.. alive. Flashlight battery has died on me too now, its dark in here, seems like its darker than it should be. There is something very wrong with this place, I need to get out, and fast.

Friday 13th, 5am. I've kept hearing noises ever since that damned elevator, this place is seriously starting to creep the shit out of me, I swear I've seen movement in the darkness, sometimes it seems like smooth meandering movements.. other times swift, jerking movements. It feels like something is toying with me? No.. maybe hunting me. I don't know. I went back to the control room, the good news if you can call it that is I managed to get the weapons cabinet open. Not much in there, a rusted SPAS12, barely usable. Better than nothing. Handful of shells. Also found a Glock 17c, surprisingly good condition with 4 mags.. something tells me I'm going to need it. My mobility is poor if I rest too long, takes a good 15 minutes to become more mobile again so I'm going to keep moving. I intend to head to the bottom of wherever that elevator leads.

Friday 13th, 10:43am. Theres no light, I'm beginning to miss the daylight. I don't know where that elevator took me but this level is nothing like the top, thick concrete walls, heavy reinforced cell doors with both manual and electronic locks. Very small windows. I dared to look in one, something shot forward from the darkness right up to the window, I jumped so far back I hit the wall. Despite being nose to nose with whatever is on the other side of that door I still couldn't see what it was. I found a small office, no power to the computer but there was a research paper on the desk. They were taking survivors against their will, civilian and military, and running experiments on them. I don't understand what most of it talks about, just that they created something from the experiments they were running on the captives and called it a "Counterpart". I keep hearing noises down here too, I don't know how to describe them except to say they sound predatory... stalking. Inhuman. I shot at something in the shadows, I think I hit it, it.. it let out a kind of howling, high-pitched shriek and it was gone. It mush of been seven foot tall but despite not taking my eyes off this shadowy figure I didn't see when it disappeared. I am deathly afraid of this place.

Friday 13th, 4pm. I found more rooms, makeshift bottleneck points and barricades. I used the light on my watch to cast some light at one of the barricades. Signs of battle. Not battle.. more like a slaughter. Shell casings all over, bullet holes in the walls. Panic fire. Theres no bodies, where are the bodies? A lot of old dried blood. Found a few ammo crates, took the 9mm rounds out of the clips for my Glock. I found a old keycard in one of the ammo crates too, might come in handy. Couldn't investigate any further without a torch.

Friday 13th, 9:03pm. Come across a electronic security lock, tried that keycard. It worked! A foul smell greeted me as I opened the door. Pitch black, like everywhere else, except for a small desk lamp. Must of come back on with one of the switches I flipped in the security room on the top floor. I stepped inside, when I did I heard something.. feeding? Then that shrieking noise again. Something lunged at me from the darkness, I drew the SPAS12 and fired, I hit it, it shrieked louder, I fired again, and kept firing but it kept coming. I was pinned against the wall in a tussle with it, only the Spas between me and it, I managed to reach for my knife and stab it, it stumbled, I used my opening to get off a point blank shot to the head. Its body slumped. I scrabbled to the desk with the lamp, hyperventilating, shaking, terrified. That thing so close to me in the darkness I still couldn't make out much.. just that it was fast, and exceedingly strong. I didn't plan to stay in that room long to see if any of its friends showed up. Whatever it is, it had a way of getting in and out of a locked room. I gathered myself and turned around, I could make out piles of what must of been bodies judging by the smell. I went up to them, used the light on my watch, they were piles of Bloodsuckers. Whatever attacked me could not only kill a Bloodsucker, but a whole lot of them. I don't want to look at what could kill a Bloodsucker so easily, I don't wank to know. I'm looking at the desk with the lamp now, theres a map on it. Sewer tunnel entrance marked on it down some steps, and a key on the desk. My way out. I'm heading there now.

Saturday 14th, 12:07am. I'm almost at the tunnel entrance after having to find my way around some rubble. Those noises haven't stopped. If anything, they have become more "restless". Maybe they think I'm a threat, I managed to kill one of them after all. Lets hope they think I'm enough of a threat to stay away. I'm at the steps, I see the door. I'm rigging the one grenade I didn't drop when I tripped at the top of the stairs, just in case. Last ditched stall to buy some time if I need it.

The key fits, I'm getting the fuck out of dodge and locking the door again when I'm on the other side.

Saturday 14th, 1:38am. This will be my last entry. I rested for a bit on the other side of that door, relife, more than anything. Not long after slumping down I heard that grenade go off.. they were not far behind me, or were they following me..? Why didn't they attack me? I'm going to leave this recording at the door and carve a warning in the wall with my knife, I'll destroy the key. Its a short tunnel, I see the ladder back to the forest. I will not speak of this place to Ghost or Strelok, they will want to come back. There are worse, darker, places in the Zone than the Sarcophagus.

Whatever this place was, whatever it is now, men are not meant to walk here anymore. If there is a God, he has forgotten about this place.

There you go, thats it for now. Consider this WIP story also a bit of trivia, if you want to do some digging ;)

Thanks :) I figured Fang needed his own bit to be a badass. I mean come on.. "Fang" even sounds awesome, about the best name in the game IMO.

Ket I usually just skim through the story content or ignore it all together but I read that straight through, you have some writing skills buddy. Really good stuff, honestly better than what I could have contributed and I have some experience with creative writing. Keep it up!

Thanks, all of that literally come off the top of my head as I typed it. Tweaked things a bit since that draft but the impression of "what the hell is down here" is still very much in tact. Nothing, in the right circumstances, is definitely more scary imo ;)

There will be more stories like that to come, and maybe even a "sequel" to that story to tease players more.
