Will NPC's bleed to death? Shooting people in the legs tends to do that quickly.

That is quite an aspect to open up if you want to go into that sort of authenticism.
Stalker is very simple in that regard.
Maybe someone some day makes a new physical system for the game.

Why not you N.Aaroe? I mean, if Dean Rocket can take his mod, DayZ && turn it into a standalone - why not push for the same with MISERY? Maybe you'll even push Sergiy Grygorovych off of his greedy high horse.

"I looked him deep in the eyes...
It was a face like hundreds of other lost souls I had already come across during my so called journey. A scenario like hundreds of others which would occur every now and again. Life within the zone teaches you how and when to kill the hard way. There is no mercy for nobody except yourself - the mercy of knowing that those you kill won't suddenly stab you in the back. And if you don't kill them, you instead abuse them to gain information - only to kill them still in the end.
Yet every now and again I question myself... Putting a bullet right between their eyes in a mere matter of seconds like the piercing strike of thunder through the nightsky while they are sitting helplessly on the ground slowly bleeding to death - is it an act of mercy at all? Selfish desires? Or perhaps just another sign of how one is slowly drifting away from the right path and deeper into the darkness?
However... Such illusions of free choice only serve to blind the mind, distract it from the greater picture. Within the zone, such concepts as sparing lifes and thinking of the future, the world as a whole, no longer have any importance. Let one live today, kill the next tomorow. Like a diabolical raffle designed by the devil himself. It can hit you every single day. Yes truly... The zone is cruel that way, toys with your mind until there is nothing left - until the trap finally snaps out of nowhere, a life and long act of survival wasted.

My finger itches... He told me what I wanted to know. I can let him be or pull through. What right do I have to decide though? Seeing myself a savior only to appear as the bloody executioner? Why care about who I am to him at all? He would only die at the hands of something else anyway, miserable how he is. Am I god and thus fit to judge over his existence? Or am I simply a servant of the devil in disguise to reap more souls for a purpose nobody ultimately understands? Perhaps he deserves a second chance. Even though he would arguably not grant one to me if the situation was reversed... Correct?
So many thoughts, such little time. A long confrontation of good, neutrality and evil of the human sub-conscience that lasts about five seconds. One more second passes... And he is gone. Hits the ground while the sound of the shot still echoes away into the distance. Who am I? And who was he? That's right...
We are all nobodies. And we fight to stay alive, each in their own unique way. Everyone has to do what they must - and some do not return. He did what he had to do and run out of luck today.
One day mine could disappear as well. But until then... It shall continue. This Life. This Curse. This eternal Misery."

So. Another unfortunate soul has stumbled in to the ZONE.
What is it that you seek here, you poor kid? Wealth? Power? Fame? Believe me when I say that you will be lucky if you find none.
How many stories have you heard of people, who come out of this hell-hole, yet alone live happy lives later?
Sure there is plenty to be gained here, you could become richer, more powerful and more famous than you could have ever imagined, the ZONE however gives nothing for free, even freedom comes at a price.
How much are you willing to sacrifice, how far are you willing to fall to achieve that which you dream of?
I too once came here, in search of freedom. The pursuit was long, the things I had to do. So many…so very many lives worthlessly wasted, people betrayed…good people. Freedom I sought and freedom I finally got, freedom from the outside world, from the law of man…only to become a slave to the ZONE. Only then did I realize what I had become. Not a single day goes by that I do not wish I could undo all which I had done.
The ZONE will eventually drain you from your humanity… leave you a empty shell of who you once used to be. The more you want, the more She will take from you, from who you are.

You are still young, if you have any smarts, you will leave this place before you begin to descend into the darkness.

I assume, monolith stalkers would rather gut themselves, then surrender... This would make engagement with them more simple.

5thHorseman - - 1,380 comments

The monolith can rarely be reasoned with, while under control they will fight til the last man.
And when free from control, they may instead put a bullet through their head in fear of it happening again before regaining rational thinking. If lucky, they could end up like Striders group, in which case almost your standard garden variety slightly paranoid loner.

what about our relations with that fraction/person then?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+10 votes

What about that kind of reward: i didn't kill a mercenary. If he is old vet of the Zone, it's bigger chance of him to understand how hard is to find a good man in that hellhole. And how lucky he is that he is still alive, thank to that good soul's choice. It's much more than just 'kill to live'. It becomes to be personal.
I mean: Here in Poland there is a thing like 'Ułańska fantazja'

For someone it can be a sign of weakness, for someone badass, the Man with 'Ułańska fantazja' can be even a Simbol of something greater.

Ułańska fantazja- ingenuity, combined with a degree of courage and madness, despite all adversity.
Custom behavior, emotional. Such behavior could afford only by the 'hot blooded' people with unbridled imagination.

Amazing feature. Can´t wait to experience this ingame.

But is ther a option to "loot" the npc when he is not dead? Like an dialoge option: "Give me all your stuff!"

Reply Good karma Bad karma+4 votes
N.Aaroe Author
N.Aaroe - - 2,709 comments

The middle ground. By disarming him you take his stuff and his stash info.
If he has a small handgun you automatically let him keep that with 1 or 2 rounds left.
To give him a fair chance to leave the place

One of the initial concept guidelines for the founding of MISERY:
"A mod for gamers who likes the idea of a good challenge or even moral dilemma when it comes to the extreme situation of lacking crucial supplies like food, water and ammunition in a constant dramatic and miserable setting"
This telling us that cruel deeds may be expected from you if you are a greedy, miserable or desperate person. Or you could challenge yourself by staying true to good morale. Just don't expect the other Zone men to applaud you for doing so. A good soul is a naive loser in this place? - that is the morale dilemma.

Personally, live and let live, unless I really need your stuff, or your people are in the *shoot on sight* list which mostly applies to bandits and mercs. Their conflict with others is of no concern to me, I just pick off the survivors if they fall on my bad side and gather the loot, the dead have no use for them.

Particularly the *No such thing as innocence*, the ZONE does not give one the luxury to be a goody two shoes. There will without exception, in every stalkers time there be a situation where the only two outcomes are kill or be killed, either by directly putting a bullet into someone else, or stealing their supplies leaving them to starve and without emergency medical aid dooming them to certain death either way.

You could of course argue that the poor sodd whose stash you just swiped is likely already dead and the dead have no use for such things but perhaps they left the right to use their stash to a friend or someone very dear to their heart, that they met in this hellhole.
You may also be ruining the life of some poor sodd who found the spot while seeking shelter in the hopes of surviving and will now die because he is out of bandages, painkillers and food and so is the stash thanks to you.

Description

By using the right combat tactics you MAY force NPCs to surrender to you.

If they choose to do so you are left with several options:
- you can execute the person
- you can spare his life and ride away on your morale high horse
- or you can choose the middle ground, disarm him, and put pressure on him to reveal the location of his main supplies (stash)

The NPC can reveal his personal stash location or even betray his comrades and reveal their private stash instead.

These personal stashes are all new creations and not featured in vanilla CoP.

An NPC may give coordinates to a stash in a whole other area/map if he has travelled far from it.

'The right combat tactics' could be to shoot your opponent in the legs and sprint towards him as a show of force.

Huge credit to modder Alundaio for this enrichment on AI.

Feature promo by Damjan Cvetkov-Dimitrov. Voice acting in this video is in accented english to avoid having to text or translate the meaning. MISERY is with russian speech ingame and english subtitles.
