Full concept modification of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat that touches every game aspect including textures, sfx, music, weapons, AI, items, weather difficulty and much more.
This is definitely the best existing modification for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat. It pretty much perfects the atmosphere of the Zone in both the look, and the challenges one would face inside of it.
Misery 2.0 is much like modded Fallout 3 and New Vegas: hardcore, open world survival. You have to plan every single course of action you take, and things like this bring a unique level of intensity. The added gameplay complexity is amazing, and the alternate starts really add to the hardcore experience.
Games like this are the reason why I shake my head when people say "The Last of Us" is a good survival game. If only more games would be no-holds-barred like this.
With that being said, Misery 2.0 is in need of some minor tweaking. Headshots should be more damaging, overall bullet count should be lowered, repair kits are one-time use for some reason, some of the prices are strange. Weapon stats are surprisingly unrealistic for a mod like this. Nothing major, ignore the hissy-fit modern casual gamers complaining about the mod.
after 2.02 patch+qf+v4 save corruption, its still a unplayable mess, theres still alot of crashes, usually scripts going wrong, the amount of new and mostly useless items bloats the engine making it super unstable, broken vanila quests where its always a gamble if they will bug or not.
Late game pryapat is so bugged out that you will go insane with npc ai scripts going bonkers on late missions and more and more crashes.
im pretty sure its not my computer, i have misery installed on my gaming desktop , and on my laptop and both have the same issues. and 1 of my friends that plays the mod has the same problems.
Gameplaywise, its full of good ideas but with awful implementation and needs alot of refining, like the broken squad and mutant spawning system that is contantly respawning them when you kill merc/bandits/mutants, so its like you clean the gas station, 1-2 minutes later its full again of bandits.
Sometimes the zone is so full of mutants that you cant walk 20 meters without finding alot of mutants.its like a zoo and way to overcrowded and removes the feel of tension/atmospheric vibe that vanila cop/soc had.
Dificulty wise,IMHO it was actually easy, the only thing i dont like is some of the mutants take way to many bullets to kill, bulletsponges is always a bad idea. Almost forgot to mention, seriously whats the deal with npcs spamming throwing grenades with pinpoint acuracy from 50 meters+ ?
I cant recommend atm this mod to anyone, unless you really like to be miserable.
Maybe i will review misery again later on its development cycle.
CoP becomes amazing with this mod. For a long time I've been satisfied with Stalker Complete Mod, but with Misery the experience is entirely different, much more difficult, atmospheric and satisfying...
The only thing that prevents a 10/10 is the lack of an option to customize the experience during the installation (for example: enable or disable the "zombie headshot vulnerability"; or the likelihood of finding better loot; emission frequency; etc)...
Nonetheless, an excellent mod!
After playing through the new release, I feel nothing has really changed. The AI still flips out, the lack of subtitles makes the game far harder than it should be (IE, you're a Russian who can't speak Russian), and sometimes you die without any reason.
It seems the MISERY team still can't fill the gap between realism and fun.
Misery 1.0 and 2.0 feel like different mods, with 2.0 being the underdog in all of this... and not in a good way. After playing for nearly 20 hours (I have had nothing else to do today, sue me!) the game is just... well, it's not as fun as the first release.
When trench-coat wearing NPCs can take two buckshots to the head at point-blank range (after pushing me out of the way in their panic with those invisible force-fields I've discovered they have), they can down me in two shots (while wearing full armor) with a low-quality pistol. This is a severe balancing issue, and I highly doubt it's the way anyone would want to play the game. I'd expect this kind of damage resistance on a zombie, but a bandit...?
Second, fix the subtitles. I will continue to aggressively poke you with my lengthy bunny stick (note, an actual stick made of wood, not bunnies) until you do. I'm having a hard time discerning between "RUN FOR YOUR LIFE" and "Take a seat" when traveling with fellow stalkers during a Blow-Out/Monster attack.
Third, do something about the head-wobble (no one walks like that but a cripple, and I used to be crippled, so I know) and jam getting in your eyes every time you're injured. I've got a friend who's served in the military and has been shot twice (chest and neck) with large caliber rounds, and he doesn't recall getting Call-of-Lamers jelly in his eyes when being wounded.
You should really consider adding optional files (yes, this is your mod, but you're releasing it to a public audience) that lamers like us can download so we don't barf every ten feet and have to napkins our eye-holes whenever someone throws PBJs at us...
Just a mess of unprofessional work. Even if its done for free... if you do something do it right or let it be.
In the end big promises were made, and this mod is deliviring nothing else then trouble and a broken CoP.
CoP had allways problems with saves/crashes, the engine is not perfect, but if rookies put their hands on it without knowing what they are doing it becomes Misery.
In the time the mod is running, it is ok to play soem features are realy nice too, but the so many times advertised "Hardcore" is just a joke, yes there was hardcore in the beginning because you have nothing, after getting the first suit, the changings of Misery on CoP become irrelevant. Latest on Jupitor the difficult level is more CoD then CoP.
And that is absolutly not justify all the hassle you will have with this mod, because a team of kids couldn't even handle the easiest things. For example: missing weapon descriptions, wrong ammunations, not working updates for suits and guns, emissions without effect on NPCs, wrong item-pictures and and and.. 1 betatester would be enough to uncover all this little ****, so i realy asking myself is there a team behind this mod or is it just one kid with a big mouth? because the only thing what misery has done well is the promotion.
Unplayable due to CTD right before the intro video while vanilla CoP and other mods for it work. For this alone I would not give a 1 but if the devers do not even respond in the first place and then not caring at all since "we don't care about CTDs caused at startup by our mod" then this deserves a 1 for bad handling. And a mod that crashes and is not playable doesn't warannt anything more than a 1. Having bugs (even way too many according to various posts all over the Internet) is not a problem for me as long as you intend to fix it sooner or later. With "we don't care" though I've got a serious huge beef. Should this startup CTD caused solely by this mod is tackled I'll re-evaluate the score. Up to then it's 1 especially for bad community/bug handling.
