Windows 8? This game engine is ancient and only uses one CPU core. Try editing alife.ltx objects_per_update from 10 to 1, and then reduce you switch_distance by 50 until FPS are pretty steady at 30 or better. If you average say 70-80 FPS, you could try limiting at 5-10 below your lowest average for steadier FPS. If you have Windows 8, the game doesn't like it. I've been encouraging 8 users to start a thread to help each other.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stalker Call of Pripyat\gamedata\configs if you have steam, it should be in the gamedata/configs no matter what. Download notepad++ if you want to enjoy editing files. You can also use notepad. In your case, I will bet limiting at 30 FPS and the pushing your switch_distance gradually up(50 at a time) until you start to average 28-30. Then drop it by 100 and you should be set. This game can't take advantage of your multiple cores. Check my profile blog and you'll see what I managed with a lesser CPU and some simple overclocking. Setting higher switch_distance means much more will be drawn, but repeating it at an easy on the eyes 30 FPS will make it a breeze for your beast of a GPU. I also have tips for optimizing your GPU which is well worth playing with. The xray engine needs just the right adjustments to get the most out of even the best hardware.

Look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stalker Call of Pripyat\_appdata_\logs or search for a file called xray_yourname open the log file with notepad and post everything after the words Fatal Error near the bottom. Did it happen when you passed near the controllers cave? You would have seen the controller proximity effects like your screen going blue.

Do you have plans for merging the mod with a free play mode like call of chernobyl? Misery is great and all but it lacks something huge... Freeplay.

Have you never finished the game? Call of Chernobyl will have a few minor quests, but just more maps, not more to do than post end game in COP. It's just going to be a sandbox mod as a modders resource.

Survivor horror at it's finest, although slightly flawed. Once all the kinks are ironed out, this will be the definite Stalker: Call Of Pripyat mod.

With the intention of being realistic, it ends up feeling like its "overly" realistic, while some aspects make sense, others do not. The idea that a trained military sniper gets too tired to even move after WALKING about 100 yards, only carrying 10 pounds of equipment, seems silly to me. A normal person might get tired, but military personnel are trained to run for miles with much heavier equipment. The ai could still use work, their detection system is most certainly unrealistic and can be very…
