Latest poll has now closed with an overwhelming amount of votes.
The majority of these voting for 'a new micro gameplay element'.

Your result is this:
"The micro management of battery life in conceptualized form"

Here's a preview of how it works:

Batteries?
What would be cool is a power system like in Metro 2033. Winding that dynamo to power your **** was pretty neat.
Just read the part where the PDA and headlight stops working without power.
This is going to be fun, extremely fun.
Will the AI have power draining too?

It looks like this system only includes single-use batteries. If they DID include a charging system, they might do something like having it take longer to crank the generator if you've got a crippled arm or something.

Artifact powered chargers when?
I love looting for small useless **** like batteries. No sarcasm intended.
It somehow gives the game this gritty feeling.
Imagine killing a man just to steal his Energizers. Or just kill him if he's a Duracell casual, in which case he's not innocent at all and should be shot the instant you smell the heresy that is Duracells.

It'd be cool if misery had an eye adaptation feature so if you don't have any more batteries for your headlamp during night or in building, you could wait a min or so for your 'eyes' to adjust

Out of curiosity, did you guys ever think of toying with a similar script for oxygen tank upgrades for suits walking into heavy radioactive/chem zones?

I did, and the mod already exists for SHoC. You need to wear either a mask with a respirator unit on it or a protective suit to wander around in the zone, because everything is radiated.

Combine that with suit degradation and the constant risk of radioactivity damage... That makes for an interesting game element, trust me.

Ill certainly discuss it with the team, as the implantation of such a system isn't that hard to do. Maybe for 3.0

Well, like you said, you can easily disable it if you don't want to, so there's no reason not to implement it.

Tbh i suggest you do that with all the new extras, making the game highly customizable and pretty much pleasing everyone.

MISERY is not a modification developed designed to please the community.

MISERY is a full concept modification which means that it has taken a stand in what provides the most interesting Stalker game. That is the reason why some hate it and some love it.

BUT some new features are a little extreme in design or annoying for certain types of gamers so in these cases we do spend ressources on having these things be optional. This is an example of this.

If we had to make every single feature optional if not loved by all we would be developing on this data for ages. To be honest I can't think of an aspect that doesn't have its haters.

Heh, you should add a car battery as a heavy duty power source. Weighs a shitload but enables you to use dem electronics for a day non-stop :P

We actually had that idea on the table during the concept phase. No lie :-)
But we just left it there for obvious reasons

Well I would imagine that a Stalker would find it quite a bit of a burden to carry a single item (car battery) weighing about 8.7kg - 14.5kg around with them on raids and stuff...

I replaced my car battery recently and would not like that heavy object to stick in my backpack against my spine the whole day on extended periods. (But then that's just me...)

This is interesting for those who care how the military views the situation (Key word:Lithium battery)

What are you people, casuals?
Screw those teeny-weeny car batteries and such ****, a real stalker brings a 30-40kg tractor battery on his raids.
If you happen ti find yourself in a tight spot, just strike the plus and minus jumper cables together and fly away like a free bird.
You could also use it as a makeshift defibrillator, although that might cause the corpses chest burst open or something like that. Haven't tried it yet.

Actually some rare, smaller rechargeable batteries along with a small solar recharging station would be cool. When you know you are going to be working in one area for a while you find an out of the way spot and set it up. Recharging your low batteries. You could make them small and rare enough just to be sure that you can access your pda or turn on a light without additional batteries. Just an idea.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
LonelyKnightess

That would just be a game ender, you would never have to buy another battery.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+4 votes

You would if you wanted to run things regularly or if you wanted to run anything with a serious drain. The suggestion was to have them be rare enough that they would pretty much be reusable backups. That would barely run your essentials long enough to get back to camp or such.

:p But it was just an idea. Its only a "game ender" for those with too little imagination to implement it properly.

I LOVE this idea, and due to the Zone's weather conditions, I doubt that a small solar powered recharging station could be abused too much. After all, one rarely sees the sun shining directly in Misery! It would be cool to setup the recharger with a couple of batteries inside of it before going on a daytime mission. When the battle was over, one would have to retrieve the charger and hope that sunlight conditions were optimal to get some energy built back up.

Wow, just fantastic. This means I could try and go through the whole game without a PDA, nightvision or light. Totally techno-primitive.

It would be also cool if you could travel only with a knife, no documents, no pda, totally off the gridline.

Again, thank you everyone involved in making Misery the Dwarf Fortress of FPS games, (without the steep learning curve of course.).

Other Stalker mods have working battery features.
But this design is unique in several ways and we did spend a lot of ressources to sculpture it this way.

I hope the batteries will last longer than just a few hours. Its one thing to implement somthing logical into the game like batteries but making it anoying is very easy.

Awesome stuff guys. What about making some artifacts recharge your gear too, just like in Roadside Picnic novel ? In the novel the name of the artifact that does it is even "Battery" (just like the one in the game).

Will artifact detectors and the exoskelton require power? I do think the exoskelton needs some sort of power source, but obviously small batteries won't be enough. Any plans for the exoskeleton?

Description

BATTERY LIFE - in conceptualized form.

This is a script element that has been in the concept and testing phases for almost half a year!

Having recently completed the scripts of this aspect we are now confident that it is going to be featured in MISERY 2.0.

The master scripters who allowed this new gameplay element to be featured are Wuut, SetaKat and Alundaio.

- - - -

This whole feature is designed for the type of gamer that never can have too many details to attend to and manage in a Stalker mod.

If you are the type of gamer that hates the idea of having to deal with more micro management aspect - don't worry:
This feature will easily be disabled and we will make a notion on how to do this upon release.
