Please comment here on why you play at the FOV you use. Performance? Widescreen Monitor? Something else?

Widescreen monitor.

I won't play under 90 FOV. Even 5-10 less makes me get dizzy and you've got less perception of what is surrounding you, so 90 it's for me the perfect FOV to play almost any FPS. Except Borderlands. I play it at like 120. Craziness :D

Human optical field of view is 95°:

When wearing Goggles or a helmet? I don't know why, I just never liked that fish bowl distortion. At arms length my 28" monitor only fills one third of my view or about 60 degrees. Especially considering you're looking out of a helmet which narrows your real field of view the default 55 FOV always just seemed natural to me. Turning my head both ways to survey half the circumference just adds to the realism for me.

I do 83 and for me the fishbowling isn't too bad. 55 feels very...off...for me. Of course 55 also gives you much better accuracy because of the effective zoom you get with it. If I were to prioritize maximizing my combat effectiveness I would play at 55 but I just enjoy playing at 83 more.

FYI at 83 FOV a zoom factor of 22.25 yields a 6X zoom, at 55 FOV its a little better than 3.5X. The difference at 90 FOV is very close to double the zoom you get at the same factor on 55 FOV. I've been working on scope zoom factors with tape measure taped across screen so I can make them dead on accurate (pun police leave me be ;) )

55. Anything more than 55 will be... Well, let me explain: When I choose a FOV more than 55, when I stick to a wall, a non-55 FOVs feel like I have 10-25 cm distance from the walls, while 55 is about 1-3 cm. This is more noticeable when I do a low-crouch and look at the ground. Also, non-55 FOVs spoil the surprises. How can a Pseudodog catch me off-guard when I'm seeing it coming?

anything less than 90 for my FOV on a widescreen will make me nauseous within an hour of playing

Sep 25 2015 Anchor

I'm using default 55. I tried 83 with Odizzio mod but it made me nauseous after a short while. Just can't get used to it.

I know some people are sensitive to motion and to distortion. I could never play flight simulators without a huge headache. Thankfully everyone can choose their favorite FOV to be Miserable at :D

Less than 90 makes glen sick....more than 55 makes toothlessshark sick...haha man am I glad I don't get sick at any FoV. I think it might be actually fairly common, I know someone IRL that gets it. You would think a FoV slider would be an option in modern games.

Modern? the engine is 8 years old LOL. A dynamic switch distance that adjusts based on load too while we are modernizing it :D

Sep 26 2015 Anchor

is it 8 already?...my processor is from 2009 as well and it doesn't really feel that long ago that I got it.

But yeah, even in the more recent first person games I've played they don't exist. Not that I play too many first person games these days as they are all just call of battlefield duty part 2142. I actually played crysis 2(old I know) for the first time yesterday. They couldn't even get aim sensitivity to work properly and when I did a quick google I found people were having the same issue in crysis 3. Apparently they're going to patch it but considering they never bothered to for the second I wouldn't count on it. I expected more from a AAA title like that control wise, though it was just as meh as I expected in terms of the actual game.

Is anyone using 75 FOV? I have already fixed all the scopes for 2.2. at 55, 83 and 90 FOV's to be dead on accurate. I'm trying to gauge if doing all that for 75 FOV is worth it.

Oct 19 2015 Anchor

I think it is Vertical FOV instead of Horizontal on STALKER so for a 90 hFOV its about 59 vFOV. The fov "feels" different from other games... perhaps its where the player camera is placed at, the camera should be more to the back, I've been noticing the effects of FOV when I play racing/driving sims, you need a low FOV to actually see right and placing the camera more to the back makes my field of vision higher without making things small/warped or with "eyefish" effect, I don't know how this would work on STALKER... You would see more of your weapon, this gives a more natural feel to the camera angle

I would like to see more options for FOVs on MISERY, like 59(hFOV 90), 65(hFOV95) etc... On the new Call of Chernobyl .exe you can actually set the FOV in the console of the game.

IMO something between 59 and 65 FOV would be perfect.

That CoC engine allows the FOV to be changed on the fly. I have not evaluated if the zooms stay correct when you change to FOV yet. I do not believe so. The camera is set by the actors height which is in actor.ltx in the creatures folder IIRC. I never played with it.

If the zooms are accurate at 75 FOV would anyone use it vs accurate zooms at 55, 83 or 90? It's almost 800 extra files to edit, so I want to know it will be used ;)

Your zoom at 5X will be 5X not matter the FOV.

im using rhe 67,5 larger ones seems too "distant" from the player and the weapons and arms are cliping with the camera

misery's default i believe its 83 am on wide screen and its comfy for me

Default is 55.

Nov 22 2015 Anchor

oh right by bad, i dont know why i said 83

Nov 23 2015 Anchor

even though it doesn't affect me much, i voted for 83 :D low fov can be a real problem for those who are sensitive to that sort of thing. i usually like to play at around 70 or 75 becouse i feel eye-shaded (is that even a word? xD) at 55 but 83 sounds good
