Strider won't speak to me | Locked | |

I've got a problem. Early on in my game, Strider and his team were taken out by a pseudogiant and I had to respawn them using the console commands. Except he now won't speak to me. I've tried reloading a much earlier save, before they were killed the first time, and he spoke to me then. So it's something to do with the console commands. Anyone got any ideas? No one? |

Shit, I got all missions done, Topol, Noah, Strider etc and now when I pass the scientists bunker and see Topol getting mauled I'm like "meh, doesn't matter now". If Strider won't speak to you, I'm worried I won't get the ending if people die and I just respawn them... As for your predicament, I can only recommend that you reload to Arrival at Yanov and just try to blast through as many things as possible. For Strider, I made sure to do all of Zaton's missions, Vano, Yar, Morgan's PDA, Duty Founder PDA, Flint, Jupiter, Scientists, etc before going anywhere near him. Then, when I knew Freedom would accept him, I took the Mitay mission, spoke with Strider, fast travelled back with Mitay, spoke with Freedom, fast travelled to Strider with Freedom and saved his ass. Otherwise Bandits and Mutants get him. This also allows for the highest amount of achievements. |

To safeguard strider you shouldn't do save mitay quest yet or even get near that area until you turned in flint by duty or freedom. Then you can let strider join either side. However it does make you befriend duty or freedom, if you want to man of balance perk, you just got to ignore strider and his area for quite some time. So solve flint and befriend duty/freedom is quickest. Be aware you got to dodge the other sides bullet 75% of the time Edited by: Nyayr -- Avoid using autosaves, use hard saves only. I went for man of balance, did yar mission and freedom took strider in. I prefer not to be affiliated with either duty or freedom, and I get Hatchet to guard the scientists. So did all the missions except for mitay, who's mission actually safeguards strider thanks to fast travel. |

Same here but that means you cannot risk going to strider's area before you gain man of balance. This also means you cannot for example get the basic tools if you play with alife 300 cause he comes in the sphere of activity. I play alife 200, so for me it isn't an issue. It is pretty rare for strider to die cause of pseudo in that part, I must say. If you have made other saves you might check to see if he is alive back then, so you don't need to go all the way back. I myself tend to make about 4 hard base/station saves per area that I rotate, to avoid things like this. -- Avoid using autosaves, use hard saves only. Well up until now the NPCs dying hasn't been an issue. So far, I've had to respawn Noah twice, Splinter once, and Topol's team once. I've respawned all of these using the in-game commands and they've all been fine - I've been able to get the correct missions off them. Strider's different though. I think he's the correct spawn because I'm able to bring up the dialogue with him for a split second before it flashes off - this isn't enough time to start a mission though. I'll try a couple more tweaks, but if they don't work I might try spawning the Monolith team in Freedom/Duty uniforms, which is one of the options in the NPC list. Will let you know if it works. |

Ah, that definitely sounds different. Weird bug, haven't heard anyone else getting it. By the sounds of it, I don't think spawning him in his other forms will work, though it's worth a try I guess. I can only recommend doing it the eh...natural way! Let us know if it works though! |

Might be cause you have different version of strider. You have a stronger version of him if you have the leader perk, I'm no expert but maybe there are two? One before and one after the quest? -- Avoid using autosaves, use hard saves only. Logs are located in "C:\Users\Public\Documents\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Call of Pripyat\logs\xray_....log" |

I've compared both the old and the new versions of Strider in the console and they're identical in every way except the ID number, but this varies for every spawn. What I did try was to go back to an earlier save when the original Strider was still there and replace him with a new spawn version, but again he couldn't speak. I can't think of any other way they might differ. TheTarman said there's a thread where Yasti or someone else explained the difference between normal spawns and those meant for missions, but for the life of me I can't find it. I must say, the search options on these forums could use some improvement. If anyone has any bright ideas, swing them my way! I'll be grateful for it. |

i see you tried wtih spawning him and it didnt work, mybe some1 with more modding exp can tell you how to continue with tweaking/spawning, but i tell u what i would do if i were in your place. Load a save where you haven't done save mitay quest, so you could do both quests in same time, but i persume that you havent been in that area before mitay quest. If this also doesn't work then do jupier map all over again from the beginning, i know its a pain in the ass to do all quests again but you wont be stuck at this anymore( it should work) and you can try to get the perks as u imagined it before. This time dont go to that are until your sure he can be accepted from any fraction side. Edited by: BockoPocko |

It's cool, I think I'll just do the Jupiter tunnels without Strider. Luckily he's not an essential character. But I like to role-play in my games, so going back to before Strider died (about 50 days in-game) would mean cutting out too much. Thanks for the help though. |

I know what you mean, I also enjoy roleplaying. But isn't that more reason to go back and do it right? I re-did jupiter three times, once because Strider vanished, once because I found out how to get Strider safe without Friend of Freedom or Friend of Duty, and again because I found out I could get all of the above AND hire Hatchet to guard the scientists, remaining equally neutral to Freedom and Duty. It seems daunting but invariably you end up with a better play through and will be glad you did |

I would if it weren't so painful so essential undo all the stuff that you've done in the game. Plus, I've played Misery twice before and each time a bug has stopped me from getting to Pripyat. This is the first bug-free playthrough for me, so I'm happy to forego Strider for that. Just arrived at Pripyat now, looking forward to exploring it. I might see if I can spawn Strider in Pripyat, see if that works. |

Haha good luck with that! Just got here myself, trying to get into the service centre just now with a Bulat, 2x steel plates and over 100kg of supplies...f5,f9,f5,f9,f5,f9... |

Htkblazer please tell me how you got Strider AND hired Hatchet, I have a "cannon" built into my head and i'd like to finish it |

I'm not sure I have any idea what you're talking about...but if you want to get hire Hatchet and save Strider, do the following in order upon arrival at Yanov. 1. Upon arrival, visit the quarry and see Splinter, allowing you to immediately confront Flint/Magpie. Whilst it seems like a lot of work, I believe you need certain achievements to "up" your reputation amongst factions, most notably Man of Balance and by doing missions for factions ie Yar's mission. I have however heard that this is not enough sometimes (possible reasons being the Freedom guy you blew up the other day) so do try not to fucking kill anyone before hand! Also noteworthy is the fact that I can't entirely remember having to give over Duty Founder's PDA to Owl to get A Man of Balance or if it was just Morgan's PDA. Try it yourself, let me know. Could skip a few steps that way. Edited by: htkblazer |

The man of balance really expands what shops sells and also tweaks the prices down a bit. more important you get a plus with all stalkers, I had in older versions of misery even bandits walk into the station and be friendly too me, never happened again in 2.1 though. Only information sharer or monger whatever is called it better for prices. Edited by: Nyayr -- Avoid using autosaves, use hard saves only. Thank god I pretty much did everything you listed, but I didn't complete the scientist missions and I didn't give Garry his artifacts, but I kinda went and paid the Scumbags at the container warehouse a visit what will happen? |

You need to get diplomat to raise your rep with the factions. The ultimate rep raiser seems to be Morgan pdf but if you do all the little ones it's enough to get freedom to like you. If you have already done all that and ransomed mitay instead of killing everyone, no problem. It's just risky going there cause it 'activates' strider allowing him to get killed. Is he still alive? |
||
Jun 26 2014 Anchor | ||
Last time I played I rescued Mitay (got diplomat) sold some junk in Yanov then went straight to Zaton to get a CS-3 suit so I think he's alive. On a side note a while back I was in Zaton and near the Hatchet's camp when I was attacked by two scumbags *cough* I mean mercs, I killed both got an FN FAL and RPK but there was another Merc nearby in the Sunrise suit variant shooting at me. Would killing those two make me hostile to Hatchet? It was roughly 100m away from his camp |
||
Jun 26 2014 Anchor | ||
No, you can stab a spawned merc in the face whilst having a conversation with Hatchet and he won't blink an eye. Just so long as you don't kill his men, pianist, mower, oak, etc think there are seven. They don't all need to survive to be hired, I only got 5 on the bunker and there's only four of them left now. |
