UPDATED 2014/03/29
CURRENT VERSION: 1.2

I really enjoy Misery for adding a ton of stuff to CoP to make it more immersive.

One thing that I did not like, at all, is the scope reticles. Yeah, I'm picky, but the reticles in the mod range from good to terrible. So, I decided to make replacement textures to pretty things up a bit.

URL to download the mod:
Mega.co.nz (1.2)

Texture source files (PSD):
Mega.co.nz

Feedbacks will be appreciated. Thanks!

1.2 (2014/03/29) UPDATE
- Support for the "closed" version of the mod is suspended for the duration.
- The mod is now compatible with Misery 2.1
- Added the reticle for 1P78 Kashtan

Awesome mod, thank you a lot :)
I also thought that the scopes were pretty terrible sometimes especially the "fogged" ones.

This is great. I want to ask if there is a way to get rid of the dark surrounding area. This would be extremely useful in close quarters combat because you will be able to see what is going on around the scope. To understand better take a look on my thread ''An example for better scopes'' . I have included a screenshot from the OGSE mod for STALKER SoC which makes the scopes to stay very realistically at a distance from the eye.

Looking pretty slick there.
I might throw a link to this thread in my sticky so it doesn't get lost into the forum void
Thats provided i can keep editing my OP in my thread with moddb screaming at me

WOA, WOA, WOA, this is exquisite! I saw your comment in my thread and rushed here. Thank you so much friend! I installed, played for a while and its awesome!
This mod makes a great and sweet difference in the game and makes use of weapons and fights so satisfying!
Keep it up. Hope you continue the support for the upcoming Misery patches.

Again, my admiration for your work and thank you!

PS: Misery devs must see this. This is essential mod and you must get awarded.

Thanks, everyone. As much as I'd like to continue supporting the mod, I won't be able to after a few months, as I'll be off for a deployment. That's why I offer the texture source files in hopes that others will be able to integrate them into their own mods. The ultimate objective will be to have the MISERY devs implement my mod in MISERY.

Anyway, if anyone has suggestions, please bring them up here and I'll see what I can do.

@yaaargle
I have access to the MDV Testing Lab. I left there a comment with a link. Hope the developers consider having a look at your mod.

Looks nice, but maybe area outside scope could be blured a liitle ? Not too much that you can't recognize anything, but just a little for immersion purpose only. If game engine allows that at all.
Otherwise looks great.

I have some idea to mimic sniping with both eyes open, make a scope smaller and put it more at right from center of screen, larger part of the screen without zoom, (like 60-70% from the left side of screen towards center), and other area with scope and zoomed picture inside scope reticle. Zoomed area should be from center of the screen.

However, I'm not sure if game engine alow something like this at all.

Nice! Thanks, man. I will keep the mod updated until I no longer can. But I'm hoping that the devs can take over, since it will be a shame to let it die out when I can no longer support it.

I really wanted to implement blurred peripheral vision, but the game's limitation won't allow that. I think there are mods with extensive hackjobs that make use of dynamic shaders that can do it, but that will be costly in terms of system resources, not to mention the fact that I'm not skilled enough to do that.

As for moving the reticles to the left, that also presents another problem. Scope textures canvas size is 1024x1024, and my textures fill up most of that canvas size as it is. Depending on the aspect ratio, the game will either stretch or squash it to make the texture fit. For your idea of slightly altering the scope perspective, the texture (not the canvas) will have to be made smaller overall. Right now, the sight picture is tiny as it is, so it will be inconvenient if the textures are made smaller.

Besides, if I could have everything my way, telescopic sights would have only the scope magnified and peripheral vision not.

Yep, that is my general idea, but I'm aware of engine limitations and that some things are not possible to implement.
Anyway, even at this state your mod will add some freshnes to the misery for next playtrough :)

2 yaaargle, I'm not sure why I have this problem, but with your scopes I have black pixels on the sides of the screen, I mean I have 1920*1080 and about 150 pixels from the left and from the right are black, so my screen is like 1620*1080 and centered.
Any suggestions what is wrong?

Phoeinx, I just posted the link to the updated version (1.1.1) in the OP that fixed the black borders issue. Thanks for bringing it up!

Greetings.
In version 1.1.1 the NSPU reticle is on 4 pixels lower than needed. Its very noticeable in the game.

Best regards!

Thanks, kv0. I'll fix that when I get home.

Updated to 1.1.2 for NSPU fix.

Try to assign your class again, there is some files specific for each class, and recheck if you copied files on the right place.
Little stupid but common mistake is that if you have copied "gamedata" under "CoP\gamedata" folder instead of "CoP" folder.

EDIT. I have just installed the mod for myself, class diversity is needed only for aks74_cobra. You have probably missplaced gamefolder.

I feel like a dumbass. I'm sorry but thank you.

There is one big problem with this mod, it's a cheating mod because when u do magnification with your scope, then surroundings outside the scope magnificate too, that's why original scopes are with small window and black surroundings...

Yep, it's a cheesy way to get things done. Unfortunately, that stems from the limitation of how the game is made, and I can't get around it.

That's why I hate it when game developers take that route when it comes to the zoom feature, because it's just a lazy way to implement it. To make the matters even worse, a lot of games do that, Call of Duty and Battlefield, to name a couple.

Anyway, if you want, I can make an alternate version of the mod that will reintroduce the blacked out peripheral vision, like 1.0.x versions did. I'll work on it when I get home.

You can never satisfy everyone. How about compromise ? Scopes with low zoom ratio (like 1.6x - 2x) without black surroundings, while scopes with higher zoom and night scopes with black edges.
Or instead of bluring peripheral vision put some transparent overlay similar to helmets. Maybe you can use SPP-99 broken suit HUD texture for peripheral, but not the same, alter it slightly ?

It's just idea, don't know if you can implement this or not.
