Hello fellow stalkers. My name is Xelaris and i have been in love with this mod for some time now, every update i played it like a maniac, tested a lot of things for myself, you know to understand the zone better. I also keep a zone diary for christs sake :D. ok my love for this mode aside, I can manage the normal mode in Misery 2.1 but i want to try the Dark mode and i was wondering if there are any other stalkers that play it and want to give me a tip or two.
Since i begin in the zone, i do not like to clear stashes to get rich, instead i like to hunt mutants or bandits sometimes, which i did with success in the regular misery until i get a decent gun and then armor. Then i go about and do quests :D
So that is just me because i am addicted to hunting and wildlife mutants.
Now i recon that the problem is the night. I will have to use the flashlight around and the area lighted is poor. Also i think no more watching from binoculars from distance, maybe just in full moon nights. Should i get my first night vision upgrade on mask then start hunting? i hope i can still get money from my hunting trips since batteries added costs.
So, how do you skilled stalkers break even in the DARK? :D
Thank you so much!

BTW don't listen to people that want to change something to ai or npc. If i could do it in normal so can they, because they are lazy they try to push easier updates on Misery but Misery RULES. Thank you

The dark mode main change is the horrid radiation that spread between lets say 5:30 until 22:00. Even with biosuits this is an issue, especially when the sun is shining (worst radiation). It is less when it is cloudy and even lesser when it is raining.

I think a recon in general has the best survival and the sniper the least when you hunt at night. A recon is more quiet, moves faster and gets the best bonuses out of artefacts. Especially bottles of spring water are excellent for a recon to remove radiation it relative prices. Also using drugs that increase stamina are excellent for a recon.

The bio helmet starts with a tier I (green) nightvision that you can upgrade to II for 6k or so. Though at the beginning when you can't afford a decent suit, it is hard. This 10kg bio helmet (best for recon) would surely be useful early on and is sold for around 40k+ by Owl (price becomes more as you do certain quests). For a cheap suit you can try the 14k cost light overcoat, though it gets easily damaged it does start with 3 slots you can put things in like +17% stamina camel backs, or if you want plates. Just be sure to either take cheap repair kits with you and check often the damage, else you easily find it at 50% and high repair costs.

Don't use flashlights as that is a dead give away for enemy stalkers, unless you like look for a dead one you killed on the ground. When you hear bullets whizzing go immidiately for cover or into shrub, best is shrub where you can move unseen through it 10 yards further away to avoid grenades at your last seen location.

For a gun early on for a recon you can manage well with a beretta regular is slightly better then modern. This is just a start out gun and is about 1kg and the light cheap 9x19 ammo is affordable especially when bought from beard (who is cheaper then owl).

If you play other classes an assaulter can somewhat follow the same rule instead maybe you want a cheap rusty AK for 10k from beard. A sniper you early on going to be using shotgun as in the dark you often walk into a group. Stalkers not always have their lights on, so be aware of that.

Binoculars can have an upgrade that allows you to see well in low light enviroments. Sure if it gets really dark this isn't practical but with a little light it works well. Also the binocular is early on very useful to spot groups, is cheap less then 1k and the upgrades are between 880 and 1500 each making it a good investment. Sure later on when you have an excellent scope, good armour and artefacts you might not need it anymore.

I think the dark mode has not much difference between night hunting, only that you need more rad removal and have your gear focus more on radiation resistance then toxic or heat, psy remains key naturally. Again a recon is best in avoiding psy with his gear.

In my view a recon excells in the night and a sniper lacks most.

Avoid using autosaves, use hard saves only.

Between 6:00 and 21:00 to be 100% exact.
