I got to the Iron Forest, downed the 3 Dwarfs and dozen zombies no problem, but the Chimera must have swallowed at least a dozen rounds from my Kurz in addition to taking a beating from a Pseudogiant it aggroed. Do Chimeras regenerate or something? I do see blood splats so I know I'm connecting.

Finally killed it. Had just 1 Kurz round left and about 10 shotgun rounds! That think is like a tank!

Two grenade launcher rounds will kill one, or a couple from a KSVK. They are tough, and blood splatter will fly from the most glancing and nearly inconsequential hits. Gigants are just as tough.

as far as I know they don't regen.

They do. But at slow rate. Faster then actor can regenerate at full satiety but still at reasonably slow rate. It is easier to see on pseudogigant. When you damage it enough, it will start to criple. Leaving it alone (due to lack of ammo or something) for longer period of time and returning back it can recocver and no longer cripling. Can also be seen with debug hud turned on.

Not big deal if you have enough ammo, it can't heal much between two shots at short period of time, to be noticable in game. But, if you don't finish it off, it can recover when you come back with more ammo.

All but one of my recent encounters with Chimera's has ended with swift death. Even with a fully upgraded Bulat suit, it's always a 1-hit KO for me.

I have concluded that they aren't worth killing due to the poor loot and ammo spent depleting their massive health pool/Armor. Conversely, Pseudo-Giants are much more lucrative, typically yield a Gravi or lesser artifact plus mutant parts. I've taken them down with 10 or less shots with class V ammo. The Chimera takes a buttload of ammo, possibly because it's very erratic and so shots often miss the hitbox you are aiming for. It's also much faster than a Psuedo-giant so you don't have much time to line up perfect shots.

Now when I see one, I just say NOPE! and walk the other way lol. I can also see why they call it the "Masculine meal" Only a real man messes with a Chimera!

True enough. Around 1/3 of the way through the game when you have grenade launcher rounds available it is much easier hunting them. Part of MISERY's intent is to make you choose between fight or flight. Poor choices end up either expensive or fatal.

Indeed. Too bad my Sniper rifle doesn't have an under-barrel mount lol.

I usually carry a Sniper rifle and an AR with launcher. I never use shotguns or pistols LOL.

Yeah, pistols are pretty worthless. Last time I used a pistol was in SOC. But I never leave home without a shotgun. It's a very efficient anti-mutant weapon. Especially early game when you have to scrimp on ammo.

Pistols and knives pack more punch in 2.2 than they did in 2.1.1, but are just not my bag.

9mm rounds are totally worthless. You're better off selling them and buying some other ammo, the only exception being hunting crows with a broken gun.

.45 would be useful if you could fire it from the UMP45, but that thing picks up damage like crazy and the repair costs make it totally not profitable to use.

.357 is probably the only pistol round worth using and only with the GP100. The Deagle produces that "shockwave" effect that disorients me and makes it worthless.

Otherwise just sell your ammo and buy the German rifle ammo for a broken Kurz or a repaired G43.

Yes if lack of grenade launcher or heavy anti-material sniper rounds, best thing to do is turn around and run.

Chimera can easily absorb 2 to 3 full mags without slowing down from almost any other calibers.

@ Misterkat: 9mm are useful at beginning of the game especially with PB1 silenced pistol. It has very low recoil allow easier head shots against light armor bandits.

.45 should be reserved for pistols not subs. Pistols are lighter in weight, if you need extra damage bring assault rifle.

Deagle's "shocking effect" can be removed by script editing, make it's the better choice against mutants.
