Hi there,

I'm about 20 hours into my first Misery game playing as a Sniper and can now afford my first main weapon. I've just been using a Sawn-off shotgun that got somewhere. My pistol broke a while ago and there is never any for sale on the boat.

So I ask any experienced players here what is a nice starting weapon (main weapon) for me at this point ? My budget is 30,000 roubles.

I was looking at the TOZ 66 which has a lot more accuracy than my Sawn-off, which means I can hunt muties from farther away, but not sure if its going to be any good for fighting stalkers.

Use the G43, sold by Beard, it is a strong weapon with high firerate. I used it before the Dragunov. This is my weapons i used: TOZ66>G43>Dragunov>Green Dragon
PS The G43 Might be called Ghewer43.

Awesome, thanks man I'll keep an eye out for the G43. I ended up buying the TOZ66 which I will use in the meantime, pretty nice damage and accuracy, just trying to get used to the iron sight on it.

Spoiler: You can find a free sawnoff toz66 in the sawmill on the tractor, good for black road folk ;)

I agree the G43 is the best thing to use though don't fire to fast cause else you shoot with a delay, due to firerate being lower then most weapons. It comes with a scope and costs around 34k when sold by beard, it can't hold a silencer though. From nimble you can quickly get 2 sniper rifles the specialized dragunov and a SVU both cost a total of 55k and takes 24 hours to be delivered.

As for a shotgun I prefer then toz34 but they diffr not that much. ;)

A tip BTW is too only buy the PMK Gas Mask and the military raincoat (you get from the start), as a sniper you dont need any protection as youll stay out of the center of the battle. Ive never needed any protection personally.

Hey guys,

Thanks much for the help. :)

Do any of those have the option to remove the scope ? I'm just partial to using iron sights, being able to remove the scope would be really nice.

It's taking a very long time for either trader to have the guns I want in stock. They always have the guns for sale when I can't afford them lol. I also just invested in a cooking stove and Kerosene, though I thought the profit margins would be a bit higher for selling cooked meats.

About the armor, I have been naked up until today and anything that hits me kills me instantly, so I bought a Overcoat which is much better. Still Im not sure how you are supposed to fight Bloodsuckers at range since they are completely invisible and take more than two point blank shotguns shells to the face.

Mar 28 2014 Anchor

You spot the bloodsuckers before they spot you, they go invisible when they see you. And no most sniper-rifles use scopes, but the Karabiner 43(G43) Uses a 1.6x scope wich is like iron sights almost. But there shouldnt be any problems with the scope, just get used too it trust me. I use a 12X zoom on the Green Dragon wich is an awesome scope, I can hit targets at 200m+ easily.

With my sniper I was using the Draganov (Alternate) and it didn't come with a scope, you had to buy your own, but you couldn't attach a silencer. Cost a pretty penny too, if you were worried about the price tag. I preferred it without the scope, I used it more as short-medium range rifle.

If you like that high power caliber i advise you to buy SKS-45 modern and upgrade it for that caliber. That and a little tweak in config file to make its RoF a little higher[so it will represent a real life rate of fire] and you have killer machine. Not that you need that RoF fix, because the recoil is quite heavy so you will still have to take time to compensate.

That sounds perfect, is it available from the boat traders ? I don't see myself getting out of here for a long time.

Cheers. :)

It is a ZF-4 scope x4 not 1.6 a 1.6 is practically useless for sniping :P

Sometimes the soldiers you find at the dead helicopters have alternate dragunovs, else you have to get one of high end stalkers, though mid/late in the game it is also sold by owl.

If only all the weapons I find on corpses weren't all beat up lol, I've found some really cool weapons on dead stalkers but they only have 2-3 bars of durability and the repair guy wants 80,000 roubles to repair them even though the weapon is worth 50,000 new :O

At the moment I'm having a real hard time with Thermal acid, I have an Overcoat and PMK head gear and Pseudogiant skin enhancement, but only one bar of thermal protection. I can't even get to the first Helicopter landing because I die in 2 seconds from the Thermal/Acid stuff. Im in Noah's boat right now, but had to refuse his offer to travel there.

Time to hunt more muties so I can afford something with better Anomaly protection.

Thanks again for the help.

If a weapon is at 25% condition it only costs between 20-30k to fix it up with repair kits.

Mar 29 2014 Anchor

I think I've only ever found one weapon above 25% and it was a stinky old pistol lol. Some I find are very close to 25%, just under it from what I can tell with the bars, I just don;t want to spend 30k and it being unfixable.

If you got a weapon at 28% you need a kit +28% and assist from a tool kit for 11% = 65% this way you only need to use 1 of those expensive kits and can use one of those 65%+ kits which are like way cheaper. You can test a weapon that has 2,5 bars by save, buying the kit test the kit if it works and if it doesn't just load ;)

So try to reach 65% (8-9k per 3 uses)
75% is even cheaper as general 75% kits or really cheap 2k per 3 uses

Yeah, I'm only through the first few missions (Twisted wheel for Beard) and I bought and used it for Killing the bandits and the mercs that were making the deal, and defending Sparacus` boat during the bandit attack mission for SulatnéBeard.

Sweet as, looks like I have some missions to do. :)

Thanks everyone for all the tips, very helpful.

As a starting sniper, I found that my Moisin Nagrant was an exceptional long-range weapon, but my sawn-off ran out of rounds too quickly to deal with the close-range muties that inevitably rush at you. My first priority was to get a replacement shotgun (sniper gets high proficiency) for the sawn-off. I managed to loot a 35% damaged Saiga from a dead merc and was able to use a shotgun repair kit that was found in a stash somewhere to bring it up to speed. The Saiga has an eight round mag and is very quick to reload, making it an excellent companion to any sniper rifle for the sniper class if you can get it.

Yeah, I immediately fell in love with the Saiga-12k the moment I fired the first shot, though the damage is considerably less than the Sawn-off or Toz66 shotguns.

One other thing I noticed about the Saiga, is that its rated so low on (Fire rate) but you can spam-click-fire it and get all 8 rounds off in under 0.5 seconds, maybe that's an exploit or bug ?

Apr 8 2014 Anchor

No, just a mislabelled stat, obviously. It's a semi-automatic.

Personally I prefer the TOZ 34 for the significantly higher accuracy and damage. Sometimes, though, you really need that 8-round magazine. Like for bloodsuckers.

I prefer the armsel when using shot over the saiga, especially cause the armsel has high version, customized/camouflaged. the saiga is better when you also shoot slugs and can with a scope hit heads. Key playing a sniper is restraint when fighting, accurate slow shots from cover even when you are under fire.

The Toz-34 is my favourite double barrel as the barrel being on top is so much cooler, also the decorated one you get is pretty sweet, and very accurate when shooting slugs.
