I just saw these in the settings (they are ON), so I assume the devs intended for it to be changeable. I honestly never noticed the infinite ammo of my enemies since I usually kill them quickly. Now they usually don't even get a chance to shoot at me with a sunrise suit in the daylight. I just headshoot them with a Nikonov (AP) and can usually kill a squad of 3 with about 10 rounds.

I don't know about hardcore aim, but infinite ammo seems to break immersion. What do you think?

You just stated that you never noticed that they don't run out of ammo, and when you loot them they don't have a thousand rounds on them, so how can it be immersion breaking;) ???

The AI has distinct disadvantages of their own. Giving them good aim and enough ammo to often fire their last or nearly their last round before you kill them is small compensation.

Do you really need for NPC's, who must compulsively shoot at mutants without regard for their ammo supply, to run out of ammo if you just peak out from behind a boulder or wall once in a while so you can walk up and cut their throats?

I only ran out of ammo one time in 6580 hours of play, should I expect all NPC's will do so? That would be immersion breaking IMHO. If it makes the game play better for you, uncheck the boxes. The fact that they are turned on by default is clear indication it is what the team intends play to be like.

Infinite ammo on and hardcore aim off.

Infinite ammo on because I don't want NPCs running out. Not necessarily due to interaction with me, but more so to make them more survivable against mutants as they move through the Zone on patrol. Gotta keep the muties under control, and armed human NPCs are the best way to do that in my opinion.

Hardcore aim off because, well, because I can live longer. It's almost a perfect setting, they can still shoot, and shoot well which I want, but without seemingly perfect aim. It's a matter of perception, but with this off I feel that the NPC gunfire is spot on.

I guess I see the reason behind inf ammo for mutants. I often see ai blasting away full auto from an ak74 (probably ap ammo no less) on some pig that I'd kill with 2 shotgun blasts. It just sucks that I can't use the tactic of getting an enemy to run out of ammo shooting a boulder. It's mostly something you'd need if you were just starting and only had a shotgun or pistol against an enemy with a scoped AR. Obviously engaging at range with a scoped AR or SR is safer.

I suppose I'll keep the two on since it seems the devs intended it that way likely as a compromise to deal with the ai ammo wasting on mutants.

The AI is so bad at shooting mutants. You'd think with such large targets they wouldn't miss so much but I see stalker squads regularly use all of their ammo trying to kill a couple of boars. Makes them easy to kill if that's what you do but I think they eat their rifles after so you only get pistols for loot.
